Wow. Where do you even find this stuff?
My theory is as follows: He is swimming in very large circles, because the object (what IS that?) in his left hand is acting as a bit of a paddle, and so every time he paddles with his left hand, he goes a little further and turns a little more than he does when he paddles with his right hand.
