You can apply this logic to any two or more things which are different and say they have the fact they are different in common therefore they can be put in the same category, but the very fact that something is completely different to anything else makes it unique, like any word in the English language it depends on it's use and context as to its meaning.
Unique can also mean distinctive , unequelled and unparalleled, and if you used any of these meanings every one of us is unique.

well just being yourself makes you completely different to everyone else e.g. whether you moan too much, careless, lazy etc... for me I'm just a great person to be with because i may look innocent but im nothing like what people think :o) .Everyone unique because their personalities are somewhat different to the people around them(unless there are some people who are just copycats!). Just think about the people around you like mum, dad, sis, bro', best mates and neighbours you may hate some but they are all unique from one another...
in the dictionary unique means 'being only one of its kind'

Just because you are unique it does not mean that you cant have something in common with someone else.
Just like all mammal species are unique in there own way they are all still all mammals.
You are mixing two different thoughts in the same question.
