GET LAYERS! I have hair very much like yours, and doing regular layers or razoring layers gets rid of the whole "lampshade" look.

Also, Matrix!! Seriously -- I'm a HUGE fan of the Matrix line of salon products. In fact, it is strictly forbidden to touch my shampoo in my house! :) My favorite is Matrix Curl Life .. and it smells yummy! You want to stay the heck away from drugstore shampoos and stuff. There is a lot of alcohol in the product, and the shampoos and conditioners leave junk in your hair. You're better off spending a little more for a much better product. Also, only wash your hair every other day, or every 3 days. Let the natural oils run through your hair to keep it healthy. Believe me .. even the celebrities with curly hair do it too.

Here's what I normally do: Wash your hair with a GOOD shampoo and throw it in a towel for a few minutes .. maybe 5 tops, or it will start to dry and then you are SOL. Run a mousse or gel through it (I like Paul Mitchell mousse and TIGI Control freak serum/gel) ... tip your head over into the tub and spray it with some hairspray (again, partial to Mitchell, but it's up to you). Don't use leave in conditioner .. it is just going to weigh your curls down, and that's defeating the purpose!

Get a good hairdryer and a diffuser ... a diffuser is a must. I tip my head over and dry it real good, so when I flip my hair back over, it is kinda pouffy. The pouf will go down, but the curls will stay. Spray it with a little bit more hairspray and then DON'T TOUCH.

My hair always ends up in a pony, anyways, because I hate having my hair down. But when I go out to dinner, weddings, etc and where my hair down, this is what I do.

I also found that it helped when I cut my hair from my waist up to my shoulders. I've had it that way ever since (about 6 years).

You may want to talk to your stylist and see if they have any ideas. You can try flat-ironing it, but it sounds like you want to keep it curly. If you try straightening it, use Matrix Sleek shampoo/conditioner, and then the black & gold conair flatiron. It says something like "Ceramic-somehting" on the front of it. It works wonders and is only $25 at Target.

Also, your hair didn't change because it was shaved. I had hair like Pocahontas until I hit puberty, and it hasn't stopped curling! So rest easy .. it's your genes, not the shaving. :)

Which products you use depends on what you're hair-type is and you're ethnicity. Are you caucasion, latino, african-american, mixed?

For starters, no matter what your ethnicity is, make sure you use a good hydrating conditioner made especially for curly hair. Don't brush your hair with a normal brush. Use a wide-tooth comb instead. One trick I used when I was broke was to put conditioner in my hair and brush it through in the shower, then let it dry naturally without brushing it again. I cannot stress enough how important it is to use good products. If you can only afford one thing get a leave-in curl defining spray like "KMS Curl Up" (my personal favorite). And buy it from a salon. You can also use "Friz Ease" from John Frieda. The products aren't very expensive and you can get them at any drugstore. Even the Pantene products are okay. Just make sure you use something that says "for curly hair" on the bottle.

Despite what some other people said, I have pretty frizzy hair, and I use mousse after showers to make it stay all pretty and curly and keep on reapplying until it's dry and frizz-free. I have a friend who uses "wet look" gel and it seems to work like a dream also. I would say try anti-frizz gels or mousses and follow the directions on the container, it should work if it's formulated for your kind of hair. The cut might be making it worse, try getting your hair thinned by a stylist as well. (The lady at Great Clips does this for me for like 8 bucks, haha!) Good luck. :]

first of all your hair will not change because you cut it or shaved it. i promise. it's impossible! if i understand your question then i think you are asking how ti keep those curls you get when your hair is wet. first of all, since you hair is frizzy dont use any alcohol based products like hair gel, hair spray or hair mosse. DO use lots and lots of conditioner, both in the shower and leave-in condition when you get out. depending on how frizzy it is you really wanna try and avoid the roots of your hair when you put the conditioner in because it will make it look greasey. there are certain prducts for when your hair dries that you can find at a drug store. they are finishing cremes and you can find them by most brands and they go by different names. you just gotta check it out and test out a few diffenret ones. hope that helps!
