Just before cooking, husk the corn, pull off the silky threads, and cut out any blemishes with a pointed knife. Drop the corn into a large pot filled with boiling salted water. Cover the pot and let the water return to a boil again, then turn off the heat and keep the pot covered. After about 5 minutes, remove enough ears for a first serving. You can keep the remaining corn warm in the water for another 10 minutes without its becoming tough. Serve with lots of butter and salt.

Serves 4.

I buy my corn fresh with the shuck still intact - after I shuck it and defeather it (for lack of a better word) then I bring the water to a rolling boil - place the corn in and boil at a med-high boil for at least another 20 minutes!

Bring your water to a boil. Add the corn. Return to a boil. Let boil for 7 minutes. No longer or it will be mushy.

I add 2 tbsp. of sugar to the water. This brings out the corn's sweetness. I bring the water to a boil and then add the ears of corn. I cook for 6 minutes. I take the corn out of the water. I smother butter and pepper all over the corn and viola........it is yummy!!

about 6 mins per cob in a microwave on high is the easiest way. Just open up the end a bit enough to pull most of the silk out first

I never boil it anymore - I use the microwave. After you shuck the corn, rinse it well in cold water and shake off the excess water. Then wrap each ear in waxed paper and twist the ends. Cook approximately 2 minutes per ear, let stand 2-3 minutes after cookiing. Comes out perfect every time!

I agree w/ docdji, here in Hawaii we have several Islands that grow really sweeeet corn. Right now it's .23/ear. I chill it & eat it raw (the healthiest), but sometimes I put it in the microwave w/ a splash of water for 3-4 min, covered & vented. I don't ever use salt or butter any more. (healthier & I've gotten used to it without salt or butter, you get the full, real taste of the corn.

anyone who tells you to boil it for 7 minutes is insane. You might as well cut it off the cob at that point and suck it through a straw.

the longer you cook any veggie, the less flavor and vitamins it will have.

Cook it for 2-3 mins, tops.
