Only if the ECM is keeping the engine from running.The ECM is the engine control module. I think you need to look at something else.

The A4LD is in need of an overhaul. The clutchs is most likey shot. Seen this many times. The only thing the computer will do is lock the torque convertor up in overdrive. The computer does not control shifting. Check the vacuum line going to the tranny and be sure its hooked up.

Depends if the transmission is electronically controlled.. some were around then , some weren't....

look and see if there is a big set of wires going to the transmission itself.. If yes, ECM controls the transmission and then the answer would be Yes.

I want to say the transmission went electric in 1992

i have 2 93 ford aerostars and they are very well known for transmission problems. You need to not go to the dealer go to a trusted local mechanic and get it checked you can also start the engine and check the transmission stick and smell it if it smells burnt. But I can not smell to keep transmission for that car.
