I watched that lady who is from Georgia on a cooking show make them out of store bought biscuits in the can.
She put some vegtable oil on the stove in a frying pan then she popped open the can of biscuits and poked holes in the middle of each biscuit. When the oil got really hot, she dropped them in and let them get golden brown on one side then flipped them over. It was pretty neat.
She then used some powdered sugar about 1C. and 2 or 3 Tbs of milk and mixed it all together for the glaze. She then dipped the donuts in the glaze. She put just plain powdered sugar on some of them and some sprinkles.

Get a can of bisquits, break the apart and roll into little balls(about the size of a quarter) fry in a pan of crisco(or any shortening) enough to cover until brown. Drain on a paper towel, and then roll in sugar, or cinnamon sugar. No kiddin these are really good. My son-n-law turned me on to them. They taste just like a warm donut. Happy Frying.

These are my favorite
Baked Cider Doughnuts:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup powdered milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon honey
1 cup unsweetened apple juice concentrate, thawed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease the doughnut pan with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, powdered milk, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Make a well in the center and pour in the eggs, honey, apple juice concentrate and vanilla. Mix until well blended. Fill each depression in the prepared doughnut pan 2/3 full with batter.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the tops spring back when lightly touched. Allow doughnuts to cool before removing from pan.

The biscuit recipe given to you above is VERY good, but I take my biscuits after they are fried and put them in a brown paper lunch bag that is filled with sugar and Cinnamon and shake them until they are coated.
Then try some other variations such as:
Spread some strawberry jam on the top of them,
Make a white frosting from powdered sugar and drizzle it on them
Spread some honey on them,
They are cheap, easy, fun to make, and taste wonderful.
If you have kids, it's really fun to have them involved with creating your toppings!

I'd go for the can biscuit recipe if I were you, it's fast and easy and good. I usually use a bottle cap to make center holes in mine. you can also fry them whole then make jelly filled donuts by injecting your favorite jelly in them. Have fun!
