depends with the question and how busy the person is. though sometimes its a belittling gesture some ignorant people use to show you that you are of little importance to them.

If they say 20 seconds and show you all their fingers and toes then they have the problem.

i freakin hate it. i don't mind them saying just a second or whatever but i hate the hold holding the finger up thing.

Not nearly as much as it bothers me when someone comes up to me and doesn't have the etiquite to wait until I am finished talking to someone else or concentrating on work before they interupt me.

Well when you ask someone when they are in the middle of something, that is their way of acknowledging you while they finish what they are doing before they can help you out. As annoying as it is, it is better than asking to talk to someone and have them ignore you.

Sometimes people do this because they want to be able to give you their full attention and they know they can't concentrate until they finish what they are doing. I think this is quite nice, actually.

that is a universal sign. it only bothers me when it takes them more than a minute to get back to me.

It doesnt bother me if they are actually doing sometihng important but if they are just doing it for no reason I dont like it. Ive killed for less.

Perhaps you just keep interrupting people. Wait until they don't look busy. You're the one who's being rude.
