I have an appointment with a pediatric opthamologist but it isn't until the end of August and I'm worried.
I have noticed he is a little clumsy / loses his balance when turning around and I think it is related.

Ok, first of all put your fears at ease. I can tell you, from experience, that as long as your son gets care...things should be fine.

I had a lazy eye when I was born and was wearing glasses at three years old. I'm glad they caught your son's lazy eye much earlier. When I was a child we had to go from VA to Tenn. just to see a specialist. Little was known about the condition back then.

What they did with me is start me with glasses. I wore a patch over the good eye side of the glasses. This was to make the lazy eye start to use the muscles better. The dr. also gave my mom exercises for my eyes to help me do. They are very simple.

Some children will out grow this condition when treated. Mine, unfortunately, didn't. When I was in 8th grade I went through eye surgery to correct the lazy eye. Today my eye works just fine and no different looking than my other eye.

If your dr. suggests surgery, AFTER trying every other
non-surgical option, check out the surgeons reputation. Ask around. Talk to some of his/her patients. Make sure you're comfortable about the surgeon suggested.

I will say this, while my eye looks and acts normal, I still don't have full binocular vision. This is because I went a long time with the lazy eye and looking with one eye or the other is something I was always used to. I usually only do that though when I'm reading. It's nothing to worry about. I still tend to amuse my eye dr.when he asks me to read the eye chart and I ask "With which eye" After I explain I had a lazy eye as a child, then he understands. But for most everything else, my eyes seem to work binocular.

My daughter has a lazy eye. She has glasses now and had to wear a patch for awhile, but she hated it and didn't wear it very often. I have heard they also have eye drops they can put in to blur the vision in the good eye.

My daughter sat thoroughly nonetheless and does no longer placed any weight on her legs till she replace into over a 365 days previous. She stood up for the 1st time at sixteen months, and walked at 18 months. We had x-rays carried out, and various journeys to the paediatrician, and each little thing replace into superb. I wasn't aggravating genuinely because of the fact my mum had to circulate with the aid of precisely the comparable element with me. i did no longer walk till i replace into 2, and did no longer undergo any weight on my legs the two. in case you circulate and notice your well being concentrated visitor and well being care provider, they could continuously do a phsyical verify just to make useful there are not any issues. Does he purely stand on his tiptoes?

my cousin had lazy eye when he was tiny too . . he saw the doctor and they had him wear a patch over this dominant eye for periods of time thruout the day to strengthen the other eye . . this is what they may do for you . . until he sees the doctor, I would just watch him carefully so he doesn't injure himself if he falls . . . good luck with this
