Firstly go and try it out if you haven't already. You need a sofa that you feel comfortable on if you're going to be spending a lot of time chilling on it after a hard day's work (or play!). I think if you've got a lot of cream/pale in your room you need to inject some colours. Browns/greens/reds - choose a shade that you can live with for a few years and won't go outdated. Then again pretty much anything goes with cream so choose a colour you like and that's not an eyesore. Don't forget you can accessorize the room too. You are your own person and you know what you like so take your time to decide. Go to IKEA (which I love doing) and look around the showrooms that display the sofa's in a living room setting and you should get more ideas. Good luck! (Can your aunt buy me something too? lol (p.s. I've got the opposite - I have a very nice cream leather corner sofa and gorgeous antique pine flooring (from IKEA) and pastel green walls and it looks fab. They've got nice antique pine tv cabinets and matching dining tables at reasonable prices - oops I'm being a typical girl and going on and on and on.........nite!

Ikea's great for accessories and such but I would not take furniture from there if they were giving it away. Super cheaply made and really uncomfortable. It won't last either. Your aunt would be better off investing her money in a quality sofa.
As for the second part of your question, sounds like you have a pretty neutral color palette there so I would say you could go with just about any color sofa you want. Pick something fun that expresses your personality!

Cream carpet is really very versatile when it comes to decorating. You might want to choose something a little darker than the carpet so it doesn't 'get lost', so to speak. The important thing is that the sofa be comfortable, and durable.

If the sofa is comfy, and you both like it, great, go for it. I am guessing that Magnolia walls means a cream or off white color. I would go with a medium to dark brown, dark blue, or burgandy. Or if you prefer brighter colors, soft to medium blue, green, red, or raspberry. My personal choice would be raspberry, with some yellow accents (unless the cream is a dark or yellow cream, then I'd stay away from the yellow and go for accents in light blue, and a light medium green).

Just looked it up.. Not to my taste, too boxy looking. Doesn't seem like you can really sprawl out on it.
Each to their own though.
With all that magnolia and cream, I'd go for a real bold colour. Anything to break up that sterility.
Jeez, I hope shr hasn't got liitle kids or nieces/nephews/incontinent relatives or friends!!
