I went because I wanted to serve God and share my faith. It wasn't anything like I expected. I did more learning about myself and my own testimony than I did sharing it. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Good luck in Phoenix.

I never went because I stopped going to the lds church when I was 13 due to moral conflicts I had at the time. We also stopped going because I asked my mom why we weren't learning about Jesus and she didn't have an answer so we stopped going and just read the bible at home. I went back to seminary classes when I was older to fully understand what it was that I didn't agree with. They had begun to focus more on Jesus Christ, but the main focus was still on all these prophets and complicated rules about thisa and that. The fundamental fact is that there is a lot of hypocrisy and constantly changing dogma in the lds church. I don't believe that Jesus is that complicated. Jesus brought the new covenant and got rid of all those rules, He said only through Him can we be saved. And I don't want to be a God, I want to serve God and praise Him for all eternity. I also don't believe that you can earn your place in heaven.
My younger brother converted to lds 5 years ago and he wanted to go on a mission because he felt it was the right thing to do. He met several times with the bishop and was not found "perfect" enough to serve. None of us are perfect, we are all sinners, but we can have callings anyway. It is THROUGH Jesus that we overcome sin, not that we have to over come sin to get to Jesus.
Look, there are a lot of good christians in the lds church, but there are a lot of mixed messages and complicated ideals in it as well. Jesus and getting closer to Him through prayer and serving mankind is how we can all serve.
God bless you on your mission.

I didn't serve a mission but can tell you what my Dh told me...he wanted to do something better with his life than what he was doing at the time. He felt a need to go. Some would say the spirit was talking to him. Hindsight is 20/20 and looking back on it he can point to many thing sthat he accomplished during his mission that he would never have done without going, including meeting me and having our children.

So you are a mormon huh..well I wish you all the faith you need to get through a mission. You have to follow your heart and faith. Dont go into it blindly-please tell me that you are not one of those people who thinks its ok to have 23 wives that is just plain wrong.

Why would you want to throw away a perfectly good life like that?
I swear, if I live to be a thousand, I will still never understand some people.
