I've HEARD that Japanese really isn't all that hard. I had a friend take it in College. Whereas, on the other hand, I've never heard anything good come from taking German.

I guess since you are American it is best for you to learn Japanese. USA has more contacts with Japan than with Germany in the automotive industry. (Although, when you think about it, Bush is trying to establish close connections with the German Chancelor, which means that there could be sooner or later a slight change in course for the Economy). Besides BMW, Volkswagen, Volvo and some others are produced here :))
I dont know: I am for German
P.S. it is in the same language group with English, so it is really not THAT hard to learn it ;)

german is closer to english. spoken japanese is the easiest to learn- tho the written can be daunting. automotive industry? japan is strong in the market, and they are suspicious of outsiders (if you aren't japanese, you're an outsider. nothing personal, it's just how they're raised) .......... learning japanese may give you a leg up and show respect.

I would say German because Japanese is much more difficult. You need to learn a whole different alphabet that has a lot more characters than our alphabet has. However, Japan is very technologically advanced and you may need to speak Japanese... Tough one!
