It doesn't come from anywhere -- that's the beauty of it!

It sounds so familiar that people have expended massive Internet resources on tracking it down, but without success.

There are a host of guesses; the most popular seem to be The Simpsons, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Monty Python. Wrong.

It's actually in the script of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Movie, but not found in the actual book anywhere.

Nowhere, probably. Some time around 2004, someone posted the question somewhere online, and everyone asked was _sure_ they'd heard it somewhere - but they could never confirm it.
