Follow the Spirit. I never found the "golden" door approach. Every person is different. Sometimes I would just talk about something they were wearing (sports stuff usually), or I would just mention that we were sharing a message (about Christ, the Book of Mormon, families, prophets....) People usually didn't get offended. Most would just say they weren't interested. And we would wish them a pleasant day.

One day on the mission we went around just offering people service, to take out their trash, whatever, we got a lot of smiles that day. The truth is, no matter how nice you are, when you stand for anything you're going to offend some people. Of course, be polite, of course don't get into arguments, but mostly don't let other people who get offended bother you - they're just not ready yet.

Have fun, and take time to step back and really look at the miracle of everything that's happening around you and everything you are becoming.

We just had a missionary in the area and i have some good advice. The sad part is that it should be something that your parents have already taught you. RESPECT. This missionary didn't respect the members or the investigators. In fact they had a strong investigator and when he came in the family dropped hard. So you need to respect them that are around. And remember Christ was loving and not bashing. So go out to teach. Don't study to out smart some one because then you are on your own.

YEAH! Mormons rock! have a wonderful time on your mission! I've never gone on a mission but I'm sure your senior companion will help you out learning to do the door to door thing.

Pray all the time! Just be polite as you can! Some idiots **coughsomeofthoseabovecough** can be offended over anything. Just remember that you are doing the work of the Lord, and he will help you.

Good luck on your mission! You rock!

My advice to you is don't ask anyone here. they will put you down. Follow the holy Ghost. He is the best guide to what you really need to do. that's cool that your going on your mission. My brother just got back, He said it was the best thing he has ever done. No regrets. :)

I have lots of advice on this, but I think you'll figure it all out soon enough. One thought: try singing to them. It doesn't matter how good or bad your voice is. When you sing a hymn, the Holy Ghost confirms that the hymn is true. It has a quite fantastic effect. Try it at the door, try it at teaching appointments, try it with your companion: sing, sing sing!

They should have taught you that at the MTC you'd better contact somebody in charge and tell them you are nervous about approaching people before they send you out.

I am offended when anybody knocks on my door to ask me to join their cult. Just being honest, there is no way to be polite while telling them that your religion is right and theirs is wrong.
