This is what I did with my cat when she was a kitten- Just put the kitten in the cat box and "very gently" move it's lil' front paws in the sand ( litter)in a scratching motion ,then take him out and do it again about an hour later and so on till he picks it up... my kitten's both learned this way within a day or two. Believe it or not cat's are very clean animals and like to cover up their waste, they just need a little encouragement. Good Luck! :}

Generally the kitten will do what the older cat is doing.
Get all boxes off of your floor. The only box that should be on the floor is the litter box ( I learned that on the hard way). Put a litter box in each room of your house. That way where ever the kitten is it will have a place to go. Once the kitten goes in the litter box (which ever room it is in) remove that box. The kitten will learn that it can only go in the litter box and not on the floor.

Put the kitten in the litterbox once and then leave it alone to do its business. Once is usually all it takes. Cats catch on quickly.Make sure to clean all previously soiled areas throughly or it may develop a tendency to return to the same areas.

I hope you are using a seperate litter box for the new kitten. They require their own litter box unless they were trained in that box first. Get a new one for the kitten and scratch it's paws in it a few times and make certain not to move it anywhere else til it is used to it.

you dont have to train the kitten you just leave the cat alone with the litter box and it will find out how to use it. all my kittens have learned like that. i have another cat and shes 8 years old! and she was an out door cat all her life and used the dirt to dig up her "stuff" and so we needed to get her used to using a litter box so we just left her alone with one where theres no outdoors and when she really needed to use it she naturally went to the litter box. cats naturally do it, you dont have to train them.

my kitty did this. anytime he looks like he wants to use the bathroom, put him in the litterbox. reward him either verbally or with a treat if he does use it. also when your out of the house, keep him in a closed space with the litterbox until he's using it on a regular basis. once he starts, he'll continue.

I agree with "kittens_momma" and would like to add that if your cat does soil elsewhere but the littler box while training it, to pick it up and put it in the litter box so that it's own scent gets introduced to the litter. Then your little one will smell "itself" there too.

Cats know automatically how to use a littebox.
All you have to do is set it down and the cat will find it.
They bury their stuff naturally outside with dirt or sand, anyway.
