Throughout my lifetime I have known and been in contact with several self-proclaimed born-agains. These same individuals have also been through rehab for drugs, alcohol, and other addictions. Do you think that religion is their new addiction? They seem to be so overboard with trying to force their new found beliefs down your throat. I find it too preachy and rude.

As with any addiction, The addicted person attempts to draw in as many people as they can to make themselves feel better knowing they are not alone in their misery.

First off, better than any drug I have ever done and I have done more than my fair share. If it is an addiction, give it to me.

As for shoving it down your throat, not right. Judge the actions of the person, there is where you will know if their belief is real or not. If they are real about their faith then, they will model their life after the model of Jesus. So do they? Question them, if they say that they are a Christian, tell them to prove it. Tell them actions speak louder than any words. Tell them show me by your walk not your talk, and sit back and see what they do.

It is not about judging you, it is about the faith, the relationship and the walk. How would you ever believe anything I say if I don't live it?

Make your friends live what they believe, hold them accountable. It is your right.

Sadly a lot of people simply change one addiction for another. Seeing and experiencing God in ones life can be very addictive but many, in my opinion, get addicted to the feelings and try to go from 1 emontional high to another. This is not what christianity is about, its as much a challenge of the mind as it is a walk of faith.

An exact parallel can be found in those who hate smoking and smokers. The same fanaticism is focused on the object of one's point of view. The reason? Because such a person lacks a sense of self, and by intently focusing on something other than oneself, one keeps one's MIND from upending one's newest view. The sad thing is that in building the scaffoling for one's newest crusade, the nails are already beginning to pull out, and the wood is rotting. Only within can one be at peace.

Well, if they have to be addicted to something, be glad that it is something that is good for them and not something that destroys their life. Besides, Christ helps people beat sins like addictions, He forgives them and they can move on and change their lives around. A good friend would be happy for them.

The fact is that they are so overjoyed to have beaten their addiction, that they are excited about their newly found salvation. It is because they care about you that they want to share the word of God with you. Because of their extreme excitement, they cannot see that you are not ready to have it "forced...down your throat", which is never a good approach to anything, but they mean well and they do it because they want for you the same wonderful peace, wisdom and strength that they have found in God.

Be patient with them, and if they are your friends, be happy for them because they have beat their addictions.

God bless.

I agree, and it does seem that way.

I think it is a way of coping with a huge life change, to get into it with a running start. And, in the case of people with past addictions, yes, it is entirely possible they are replacing their addictions with religion. Being a Christian is all about learning to balance things in your soul with the will of God.

Yes. Religion is just another crutch for dealing with life, and just as dangerous as those other addictions you spoke of.

That's a possibility. Maybe they're just so excited about their new found faith, that they tend to go overboard without even realizing how they are affecting other people.

Thats true. But since they have an adictive personality, its only naturl they get addicted to it. At thesame time, maybe they are happy and would want to spread their joy.
