I am making a shepards pie recipe that I saw on Paula Deans Down Home cooking today... The pie has biscuits on top. She didnt add chese to them but said that you could to make it cheesy. Now I want to do that but do you think Ragu cheese from the Jar or shredded cheese would work best??

cheese from the jar is going to make the bisquits real mushy, if you don't want that use the shredded cheese, that's what I would use personally.

Shredded Cheddar. The ragu cheese has parmesean and mozzerella blended with it which would give it a more salty, sharp taste. This is a "comfort" food dish that would be transformed to a more Italian like flavor if you use the Ragu cheeses.

You must definately go with shredded!! I make a good "my own" version of shepard's pie and it's really cheesey and easy and quicker, in case you ever want to try it:

Ground Beef - browned and drained
Mashed Potatos
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Corn

Layer each item in a casserole dish like a lasagna, start with mashed potatos, then add corn, cheese, then ground beef then more mashed and top off with cheese.

It's deliecious and a family fave! My 6 y/o loves it!! Good luck!

I would use the shredded cheese. The cheese in the jar is liquid and will probably just spill all over the place.

shredded ... dont waste your time on the other yucky stuff ... by the way, slide the dish in to bake with the cheese on top until it just melts, then remove from oven and add on the biscuits ... otherwise the cheese won't melt underneath them.

Use mashed potatoes instead of biscuits and then for the last 10 minutes use fresh grated extra sharp cheddar cheese. It's delicious!

I would DEFINATELY go with shredded cheese - better for you. If you do go with the processed kind, I would try velveeta cut into veery small cubes.
