As a cleaning agent, baking soda is less abrasive than virtually any other cleaning agent used in toothpastes. Less abrasion means less tooth wear, which helps keep your teeth healthier, longer.
You may want to consider using Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Toothpaste instead of straight baking soda.

My father has used baking soda and peroxide for 30 years+. He swears by it. He does it every day. His teeth are not the whitest, but he doesnt get cavities very often. He is also a stickler about flossing.
I use floride whitening toothpaste and I never get cavities. Ofc, I floss too. Which is just as important as brushing.

Yup, tootahpastes are made of baking soda anyway. Baking soda removes oil, but I still recommend that toothpaste is a better choice because it was specially formulated for mouth(?) care.

It's probably ok, but why? I remember sitting in front of some old woman, and heard her say she never used toothpaste, only water. I turned around, and she had breath like an open sewer, so don't stop using toothpaste..

No, because baking soda will start to wear down your tooth enamel.
