Your first book probably WILL be bad, just like your first painting,or your first time playing piano, or anything else you might try to do for the first time. Don't let the fear that your work won't be good prevent you from trying. Everyone starts out bad, and learns by doing.

As for what type of book you should write, well, what type of books do you like to read?

Also, consider that there may be other ways to explore your potential as a writer that would be less overwhelming than writing a book, such as short stories, poetry, journalism, or blogging. You might want to start with something smaller, to see if you really enjoy writing, before taking the plunge and writing a book. There are also other ways to express a creative gift besides writing, such as acting, art, music, web design, etc., so consider whether you have a specific talent for writing, or if you are just a creative person who can express that in a variety of ways.

If you're a student and your school has a newspaper, yearbook, or literary magazine, why not start by contributing to it? If your school doesn't have any of these, why not create one?

First of all, you need to make use out of spell-check. Any material that you submit to anyone that is full of errors will be chucked quickly. Publishers have editors who read the manuscripts that they receive. If your idea is good and the material is well written, the editor will let you know that. I would use your teachers as resource and let them read every thing you write and give you valuable feedback and help you "punch it up" so to speak. Then, look for ways to contact publishers online. Your teachers, if they are serious, will help you every step of the way to ensure you have the best chances of getting that manuscript read. After it's all said and done, the editor will let you know if it is good enough to be published or not. Even if they do not, some other publisher might, so keep trying. Remember to seek out the help of those around you who know people and who know how to help.

It can't hurt to try and write a book! when you finish you should show your story to you friends and teachers to see what they think. they'll probably have some suggestions. If you really like what you wrote you could even send it to a publisher! Just believe in yourself. Also, a great resource for writing anything is called the elements of style. It's great for improving the way you write.

I dont think that you realize how much work it actually takes to produce a book...first write the book and then worry about what steps to take. I suggest romance/thriller
