Uh, Exodus is the OLD TESTAMENT....those laws were done away with when Moses come down off the mountain.....with the 10 COMMANDMENTS.
EXODUS..means EXITING..the Israelites wondered in the wilderness for 40 years as they were EXITING the ENSLAVEMENT by the Egyptians. Then Moses went up the mountain and received the NEW LAW, which we are to follow today.
That's how I believe; you can believe any way you choose!

If you believe that people should be sold then you are not a true God's man...It is wrong beyond all ways of life.Plus what they meant by that was that "he would sell her as a maid or a wife".They haven't done that for a few hundred years now...we have a thing called free will, and personal freedom(once 18 we are free to do as we will) so if you girl is under 18 then you are sick and demented to even think of selling her off...she is still a child. And for the way society is today she could be hurt very badly and would most likely hate you for all aspects of the sale.If you are a true Christian then you should read the new testament. It tells you how God told to rid of slavery and the ten commandments are the right way of life.

For your information Christians believe that the old testament is the Old Covenant, and we are to live with the New Covenant which was brought about when Christ came to earth and his death upon the cross brought about salvation from sin if we chose to accept it. Before you criticize, you should know what people actually believe. Read the Book of Matthew, the sermon on the mount. There Jesus sets up what the new rules will be. They are very strict and impossible to follow. His point is that nobody can follow all the rules and earn his way to heaven, salvation only comes through Him. If you accept Him into your heart and surrender your life to Him, you won't have to be judged by your actions, but by wether you knew Him and had a personal relationship to Him. Through Him you will find peace and the desire to do the right thing, but if you fall, He is right there to pick you back up and steer you back in the right direction.
God bless you.

Those laws were written in the second or third dispensation (a general state or ordering of things; specifically : a system of revealed commands and promises regulating human affairs b : a particular arrangement or provision especially of providence or nature).
After Jesus came, everything changed. God has changed his mind many times starting in the dispensation of innocence (the garden of Eden). He was going to have a single person (Adam) for company and then he looked down and saw that Adam needed a help mate. That's when he decided to create Eve. I can give you a lot of examples of the times God decided to change things. You have to realize that at one time, he even let man run things. It got so bad, that he felt like he needed to destroy the Earth (on more than one occasion) You can't just pick a sentence out of the Old Testament and expect it to be law today. Christians follow the New Testament and we are now living in the dispensation of Grace.

In response to your atheists question!...If you want to know about God , then you should get saved and go to church so you can get the whole picture and not the frame!...kicking around scriptures from your carnal mind is not going to do!.......you need to get saved because you don't believe that GOD Exists so your carnal mind will guide you and not a Spiritual Mind!....that's why GOD Put His Spiritual Ministries Into Operation!...read (Psalms 14: 1) & ( Eph. 4: 11-16), & ( Romans 8: 5-9).....You'll never figure it out unless you have an Expience With GOD Like Hundreds Of Other Thousands That Believe GOD!...Otherwise you atheists are just grasping at straws!.....also read ( 2 Tim. 2: 23)......

No, what some of you are doing is trying to make the old testament into life in these ages, we are living in different times, the New Testament brung Jesus, and through Jesus we have a whole new set of principles and rules, while the O.T. tells us stories so that we can gain some understanding, we should live by the New Testament, when they circumcized sons in the old it is not mandatory now, because when Jesus came we all become Holy when we receive the Holy Spirit by repenting of our sins and accepting Jesus Christ into our lives, alot of these other things are not mandatory, Jesus Christ was the final sacrifice for our sins so that we are no longer seperated from God.

A slave in those terms was nothing like a slave from conquest. If a man owed another man a debt, he could pay off the debt by selling his daughter to the man he owed. But the owner of this girl had the responsibilty of keeping her in good graces, she in return had to work as a servant. Try reading biblical history and quit trying to prove God is some evil thing like you are.

Of course not. Many of the laws in Exodus are part of the CIVIL and CEREMONIAL laws for the Jews at that time, and yes, they are literally true. Jesus came and basically said that the only laws we need to get to heaven are the moral laws, of which there are basically two. 1) Love God with all your heart. 2) Love your neighbor as yourself.
We must not confuse something being literally true with it being literally applicable. This is kind of like trying to take into account time dilation when telling someone how long it will take to drive to their house. It is true, but it is just not applicable.

Well, first of all, that's the OLD Testament, which serves only one purpose today: To show the history of Judeo-Christianity, and as a testimony of the prophesies concerning the Messiah. The New Testament mentions nothing about such a thing, and I choose the New Testament as the foundation of my faith.

As a catholic, I was taught the bible is full of symbolic teachings. The old test. is a collection of books as to history, the new test. is a collection of books on symbolic way to try & live our lives. a good example: (which got me kicked out of a confessionial) in gen. it states adam & eve were the 1st parents, they had 2 kids, cain & able, cain killed able & went to the land of Nod to live with the people there....if our 1st parents had only 2 kids & one killed the other, then where did the folks in NOD come from???? see??? symbloism......
Do you really think that we ( any normal human parent) would EVER consider selling our children into slavery?,
