I am a hairdresser and recommend a mild relaxer if you are willing to maintain the straight hair. Touch-ups should be done every 10-12 weeks depending on the amount of curl. For ethnic hair you definately need a relaxer, for caucasian hair that is curly, a perm solution combed through will only be temporary. The rule we always go by at the salon is that perm can only remove perm, but does not have enough weight to it to permanently straighten natural curl. If you are dead set about trying the perm solution, make sure you empty it into a plastic bowl and add quite a bit of flour so it has some weight to it and is slightly thicker than pancake batter. Use cotton around the hairline to protect your eyes, and comb it through shampooed, towel-dried hair hair with a wide toothed comb. Follow the manufacturer's directions completely. Just remember the entire processing time you must continue combing it about every 5 min. Don't forget to rinse well(usually 5 min.) towel blot thoroughly so hair is only damp, apply neutralizer according to the directions, rinse and condition. Just like a perm, you cannot shampoo for two days. You can rinse, style, flat iron-whatever, just no shampooing. This is a terrible idea if your hair has bleach or sun-in or manic panic color in it. If it is remotely healthy, at least you could get a feel for the straight look. But I really think the relaxer done in the hands of a professional is the way to go. Most salons offer complimentary consultations, where they can take a look at your hair and give a recommendation. Don't go to the cheapest place in town-make sure your stylist is comfortable and has experience with curly hair. Prices are usually between $50-$70, that's another good questain to ask the stylist. Good luck!!!

Yes, it is but it damages hair alot. Way more than straightning your hair with an iron. I reccommend you dont perm. You'll get tired of it after a while. Just use a straightning iron and some spray after you're done to make it stay straight. Curly is cute sometimes. I have straight hair, I wanna have curly. It's always opposite once you have it, you'll want curly back. And by the way,it's only for a while, not forever.

when you get your hair permanetly straight it is called getting it relaxed. It isn't permanet for the rest of your life , but lastes for a while. it is nice & works well , but you might still have to run a flat iron over it once a day maybe, depending on how curly your hair is.

Yes but perming is something that has to be repeated once or twice a year. It causes your hair to dry out and sometimes break. My once beautiful curly hair is no dry, brittle, and split.Instead try a wash and rollerset. It is easy on the hair and promotes growth.
