There are different types. The ones that cost about $20 per month and cover your pet's annual vaccinations are worth it because with the plan you pay a total of $240 per year and other vet visits are free. Without that plan you can pay more than $300 for annual vaccinations.

well, it depends.

If I were you i would calculate the costs of the amount you spend on your pets vet bills, and then look at some pet insurance plans, do the math, and see if you would end up saving money.

i think it's worth it, but i'm not sure. my dog is fixing to be 6, and then 7, which is considered a senior dog, and he's probably going to start having health problems and i want to get him insurance now because i think the dog has to be enrolled before age 7.. on some plans that is, but once you enroll them, even after 7, they can keep it.

i read at one place that a person had a $17,000 vet bill because their dog was seriously injured, and they only had to pay 10% of it because the pet insurance covered the rest. :)

I think if you have one or two animals, and the insurance also covers the yearly vaccinations, that it is very much worth the price. I know someone who's lab pup broke both his front legs, and he didn't spend a dime getting him fixed due to the insurance. Me on the other hand, I have 2 dogs and 3 cats - so the premiums each month would be too high for a what if situation to cover them all.

I belong to an on line support group for people with cats that have vaccine-associated sarcoma. More than one member has spent over $15,000.00 on treatment for these cancers. Many members have spent over $10,000.00 on their VAS cats and over $5000.00 is pretty routine .

Last spring my Scooter kitty ran up over $6000.00 in medical bills in less than four months. He was about to run up another $2500 for surgery when he died before the operation could be done. And he's NOT the one who had cancer!!!

So yeah, I think pet health insurance is a good idea!

Shop around. Some policies have so many exclusions or such low per-incident limits or annual limits that they won't be much help if you run up against a big-ticket ailment like cancer, which is when you'd need it most.

Also, don't bother with the option some policies offer of covering routine care for an extra premium. The only way they can make money covering routine care is if they charge you more than the vet charges them. Insurance is for the unexpected, not for routine stuff.

this would depend on how important your pet is to you. for some it's not worth it but others yes. my family had a dog that was part of the family and my parents did all they could to keep her healthy, we could've used pet insurance with all of the money we spent on her (she had so many problems)
but it's just like a human, i looked up an average somewhere and it was like $30 or so a month to cover a cat, but if the pet has pre-existing conditions the insurance will be more, just like a human

I have 2 Siberian Huskies and I have them both on an insurance plan through PetSmart. It costs me about $50 a month ($25.00 per dog) and has saved me about $1,300 so far just in routine care - physicals, lab work, shots, etc. Plus I can take my dogs in anytime (and as many times as I need to) throughout the year whenever they are sick or I have a concern about them, at no charge.

correct, it relies upon. If I genuinely have been you i could calculate the expenses of the quantity you spend on your pets vet expenses, and then look at some domestic dog coverage plans, do the maths, and be conscious in case you will ultimately finally end up saving money. i think of of it particularly is properly worth it, yet i'm uncertain. my canines is fixing to be 6, and then 7, it is seen a senior canines, and he's probably going to initiate having well being subjects and that i pick to get him coverage now employing actuality i think of of the canines could desire to be enrolled before age 7.. on some plans it particularly is, yet as promptly as you sign up them, even after 7, they could save it. i learn at one place that a man or woman had a $17,000 vet bill employing actuality their canines replaced into heavily injured, and that they only had to pay 10% of it employing actuality the domestic dog coverage lined the rest. :)

Just be careful to read the fine print. There are a couple basic choices but they never cover anything that can be considered a hereditary problem.

not unless your pet gets sick or injured a lot. I had it, never had to use it. So after a year of wasting money canceled it. Still have been to a vet.
