I want a digital phone with several hand held units. But I want one that will let me screen the caller's voice or name before pick up. Can I get this without dropping my call notes answer with the phone company or must it be one or the other?

AT& T makes a great digital system with answering machine and extra handsets. Their answering machine has a feature that works with caller-id. After two rings, the machine announces the caller phone number to you. Do some online research since others may offer this feature. The AT & T unit was highly rated in a leading consumer magazine.

You need to go to Wal-Mart and buy an answering machine. Then call your phone company and turn off "call answering." Wow, pretty sad when the younger generations have no clue what an answering machine is. It is the opposite of voice mail!

Any answering machine will do that.
Once you hear them talking on the loudspeaker, you pick up the phone
