Varsity Chili for Hot Dogs
Lots of Atlantans have fond memories of trips downtown that include chili dawgs from The Varsity! Here's the chili recipe.
4 lbs lean ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped fine
1-2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons ground cumin
6 tablespoons chili powder
2 cups water
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package chili seasoning mix
18-20 servings

1. Brown ground beef in skillet and drain fat.
2. Add all ingredients and combine in crockpot, stirring to mix thoroughly.
3. Cook on high for 2 hours.
4. Stir well, reduce heat to LOW and continue cooking for 6-8 more hours.
5. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:
1-1/2 lbs lean ground beef
1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes
1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
1 15-ounce can kidney beans
1 medium onion chopped
1 green pepper chopped
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
PREPARATION:
Brown the ground beef in a Dutch oven, and then set aside to drain grease. Brown the chopped onion and green pepper next. Combine all ingredients (except the beans) and bring to a simmer. Add the kidney beans and continue simmering for one hour, stirring occasionally. That should be a good recipe!!! :)

It's easy! Just 1/2 lb hamburger will make enough for dogs. Cook hamburger in water, breaking apart with spoon as you cook to get a smoother consistancy. When meat is no longer pink, drain off water (this will also make this recipe lower in fat, as fat drains away with water) Add chili powder, salt, pepper, ketchup, a dab of mustard, onions if you like, and simmer 10 minutes or so to marry flavors. You can make this in a small crockpot and keep it on low for hours if necessary!

I don't know any home made recipes, but Dennison's makes a great canned chili that comes with or without beans, and tastes better than anything my mom ever made( its got lots of meat with little grease) and the best part is you can find it at the grocery store.
