I would give no ground for such a claim. I don't see that claim as being true.
Dignity is a quality that we, as humans, subjectively give to things. It's not something that is inherent in a thing. If humans have dignity, it is because we think they have dignity, not because the universe has somehow endowed them with it.

dignity: n. The quality of being worthy, honoured, esteemed.
Seems to me there are more than enough people in either camp who refuse to recognize the "inherent dignity" of others.
Consider the implications in words like "heathen, barbarian, slave". When you realize that groups of people have played fast and loose with the definition for "human being" it is not hard to see how subjective humans can be about recognizing "inherent dignity".
I for one would appreciate clarification on the term "nonbeliever".

The quality of dignity is developed. One's inherent worth is not. Everyone born has inherent worth in that he or she was created in the image of God--no matter what his or her station in life.
Dignity is a character quality that is developed (or not) over time.

First of all, by "nonbelievers" do you mean people who don't follow YOUR dogma, or people who don't believe in any god at all?
In any case, I believe that every human being is responsible for their own dignity.

Please explain to me what this has to do with, or how it shows any validity of religion. And inherent dignity is a survival mechanism. Haven't you ever seen two alpha males in a herd fight? It serves to carry on the genes of the stronger animal.

I thought we all believed in the inherent dignity. I wish I could help.
I am a Christian and I believe in it.

i'm atheist, so for me there is no god, yet that does no longer recommend I havn't idea about issues. i imagine if there's a god, then this god may be each of the skill there is interior the universe and each little thing there is is made from this skill. Now, imagine about this idea for a 2d, if there turned right into a author god that had each of the expertise there is and each of the skill it necessary, may it desire a reason to create some thing, or each little thing. Like I stated i'm atheist and if some god created me with the powers of reason and good judgment and that i didnt use them powers, i'd imagine this god only may punish me. If god is this skill and each little thing is made from this skill, then each little thing is part of this god and it does no longer be a subject matter for god to understand each little thing about each little thing. I under no circumstances ought to settle for any of the bible gods as being the author of each little thing because those gods are all way too not so good as be the gods of all introduction. To many emotional carry close-ups.

Look up "The Age of Enlightenment". read the writings of some of the philosophers that you will discover there. Also, read "Common Sense" and "The Age of Reason," essays written by Thomas Paine.
