i know they believe in Jesus and that he special in Heaven adn that he died for us, but my husband's stepmom who claims to be a Jehovah's witness makes it sound like they dont' believe He is God in the flesh.

Jehovah's witnesses Do not believe that God and Jesus are the same person We believe that Jesus is gods son.
john 3:16-for God loved the world so much he gave his only begotten son. (as you can see here god and Jesus are spoken of as two different people)
And when Jesus was on earth he prayed to his father(God) so they can't be the same person and are two seperate people

No, we believe Jesus is God's son. Jesus said his Father is greater __John 14:28: " Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I."
Matthew 5:48: " Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.__Where was Jesus when he said this? He was on earth and where did he say his Father was?_in heaven.
Matthew 11:25.26: "At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight." __Who was Jesus thanking? himself?__No, he was thanking his Father who was in heaven.
Mark 13:32: "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."__Jesus does not know when God's war against the wicked will begin, only God knows.
