Even though it's called the speed "limit," it's common knowledge that it's more of a suggestion. Most people drive 5-10 miles over. Most cops don't pull people for speeding unless they're 9-11 miles over, depending on the cop.
If you're in the left-hand lane while driving the speed limit, you're not following the rules yourself. The left lane is for people who are passing. Everyone should technically stay in the right lane unless passing. If you're in the right lane and people are still honking at you, make sure you're not driving at a speed that makes it difficult for others to pass the dork in the left lane who is also going slow. You'll avoid the honking and trash-throwing if you think about common courtesy a bit more.

Do you drive 55 in the fast lane?? The left lane is considered the PASSING lane. If you are not the fastest car on the road, or you are not passing the slowest cars on the road, you should not be in the passing lane. Period.
Since our society is based on personal liberty, we all have the choice if we want to stay at the speed limit, go just a couple mph over, or totally speed our tails off. That said, as any civil disobedient person will tell you, we also must expect that we shall be forced to live with the consequences of these actions. When you drive slower than other traffic in the fast lane, you are not following the rules, and will pi$$ people off. When others drive over the speed limit, they are breaking the rules and will pi$$ people off.
Either way, it's up to you to follow your own moral compass, but driving slowly in the passing lane is actually just as unsafe as speeding.

Honey, I believe truly in John 3:16. Although I do not hurt people but ma'am you are a hazard. You can not drive the speed limit while Everyone else is going at least 10mi over. Its the rules of the road. If you look behind you and you see that you are holding the line up, move over. If not, then get a bike. Nothing wrong with that. When people get in cars, its usually not because they want a quiet, scenic drive, its usually because they want to get somewhere. When you drive just be considerate of others that are on the road. ...just a thought.

Even though the speed limit is just a suggestion, cops still get ya if you are going faster than it. I live in Maine and the people follow the limit to a T. If they see the speed limit is 55, they go 55 or under. Pisses me off, but that's how these people are. Just let those idiots drive around you.

Generally speaking 55 mph is 55 mph, however when on a major interstate driving slower then the rest of the traffic it is in fact a danger to yourself as well as the speed demons on the road. I don't think you will win this one. Best bet is to stay away from these roads or speed up. I don't think people will every change. Everybody is always in a hurry and have no place to go.

where do you live?
If you're living in a big city, people tend to go above the speed limits. in Boston, a friend told me you could get pulled over for driving the speed limit, because everyone else is drining about 15 miles above! If going too far over makes you uncomfortable you should drive in the slowest lane, otherwise, going a few miles over wouldn't hurt.

Because almost nobody obeys the speed limit anymore, unless a police officer is near. Try going above the speed limit.

Which lane are you driving in? Always stay in the right lane if your gonna go the speed limit. If its a two lane highway just let 'em go by they probably have road rage and you don't want to get into that with anyone.

If you stay in the right lane, ppl should just get mad, but not show it.
If you stay in the middle or left most lane, you're hindering the flow of traffic. People stay in those lanes b/c they want to go faster than the speed limit.
If it's a one way street, you're hindering traffic again. What's wrong w/ driving 5 miles over?
No offense meant.

Doesn't matter which section you are in, it's still wrong of people to treat you that way. I get aggravated when someone drives slow in the left lane because that really is an impediment to traffic, but i don't throw trash at anyone.
