The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."
Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:
Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.
In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.
Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom.

Yes, I do. Here is a good description that should answer your question.
Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from using it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognises the existence of superhuman power or powers.
The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individual's understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.
How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit. The basic religious philosophy and knowledge of Scientology is very old, going back 10,000 years at least to the Veda or Vedic Hymns from the East. The developement of the technology is new.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable estate., when he died.
He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 55 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.

A) Human beings were created billions and billions of years ago.
B) We're here on Earth, stuck in the flesh because we boo-booed big time hundreds of millions of years ago.
C) By paying big bucks to Scientologists for "cleansing", we can recover our memories of all this and be ready to go back to our original state.
D) The universe is something WE as God built our ownselves and agreed to forget about the doing so we could have fun with our creation.
E) Some of us did no-nos and got everyone in trouble. Therefore we gotta be "cleansed" so we can go back to being gods.
F) L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, was a hack science-ficiton writer. Hard to tell, huh!? Yeah, riiiiight.

Look up Scientology.com. It's a 'religion' founded by Dianetics writer L. Ron Hubbard. It has something to do with souls that were stacked due to an H'bomb explosion and in order to get to the next level you have to be audited (each level is like $500 but it gets more expensive as you move up. I personally think it's more of a cult than anything because there is no other world religion that has a "celebrity center". Some of the concepts are interesting but in general, "you have to pay to get audited in order to get to the next level." When you first read about it on the website, it seems to be pretty cool and on the up and up but it's just a money grubbing pyramid scheme!

Scientology was started by L. Ron Hubbard. It's a psuedo-Christian cult that works hard to prove that the miracles in the bible can be explained away with simple science, in other words, the miracles of God are not really miracles just curiously singular events. In other words, they are as lost as a goat in a hail storm.

The long and short is god in an alien and we are possesed by the souls of dead aliens. There is more to it than than that , but that's the basics. I am not kidding at all.

I think is similar to many other so called "churches": They give you a frame of mystic stories which you must believe. If you stay with others who believe the same things, it works out properly for you and them referring to your emotional equilibrium and of course you have to honor them in a way with gifts, taxes or buying some books, scripts, pictures, candles etc., meaning you pay them for feeling good with their services.
Membership in church mostly ends up working properly,
(1) if you meet people from other churches and both of you don´t tolerate each other. This is ending up even in wars like the Middle East and church members are misused like tools by their priests and other church representats
(2) if you find from your everyday life proofs, that your church´s informations or lessons are wrong, lies to take advantage of you or fairy tales to misguide and instrumentalize you.
From my German point of view American churches also can have a strong economic background and members, after being caught like fish, are just stupid taxpayers. THIS HAPPENED TO MANY GERMAN PEOPLE BY SCIENTOLOGY. They were looking over here for wealthy people (or their children) and tried to sell them high priced services and lectures, when the members were dependent enough on the mystic framework.
Scientology in my country Germany has a very bad taste therefore, even if exist well-known and wealthy people belonging to them, who obviously can afford their fees and take advantage for their psychic equilibrium from their services.
Their beliefs to me look in a way as unrealistic and unproofen as in christianity the Adam and Eve story or Genesis or as in ancient times the stories of Gods like Zeus/Jupiter, Aphrodite/Venus etc. Scientologists have equivalents to God and devil as well as heaven and hell.
