There isn't really a right or wrong in this case. There are widely different interpretations of what the Devil does or does not do depending on the particular brand of Christianity. To many Christians the Devil is simply the warden of hell, to others he constantly interferes in the affairs of man.
If you believe the Devil has the power to influence our lives then you are correct in your assertion. If not then the answer depends on how you choose to define 'handle'. It's a rather abstract term, so much so that one could find a way to argue that a person 'handled' even something that may have killed them.
In the strictest terms of Christianity this phrase is almost blasphemous. Throughout the Bible (particularly in the book of Job) it is repeatedly shown that god has a plan, his plan might smite you for no apparent reason, and that all god really promises you is a cushy afterlife if you meet his requirements. In other words god promises nothing in this life. You live for him, not the other way around. So, the idea that he would consider what you can or cannot handle when deciding what to throw at you would seem to be a direct contradiction of this.
Then again the very notion of god's interference in the life of men is rife with contradictions. The largest of these stems from the rather common idea that god will periodically test you by giving you some extraordinary challenge. If it is to be a test then obviously god does not know if you will handle it or not - otherwise why bother testing? Yet god is also thought to know all, and thus know the future, and thus know whether or not you will pass his apparently pointless test.
Don't get me wrong, I've always liked that saying. It is simply meant to give someone hope in a time of great despair or frustration. In that sense it is of great value, but it has little value in terms of Christian metaphysics - though some other types of spirituality follow something close to this.

People have to go through many things. God said, He would not put more on us than we can bear. Sometimes God has to let trials, and heartaches come into our life. It happens to test our Faith. We have to be strong in the Lord, and put our faith, and Trust in Him. He allows things to happen for a reason. Sometimes just to wake us up, and draw us closer to Him. Satan does make people feel worthless. It is his voice that tells someone to kill themselves. God would never want anybody to do that.

Trials come to test our faith and grow us up, so that we can be all that God wants us to be and help others grow as well. Feeling in many cases is a choice, you decide how you will let something affect you. You are right the devil and his demons try to tear you down, but the bible says in Ephesians chapter 6 how to take the amour of God and put it so that you will not be affected by what the devil trys to do to you

He will not give us a burden we cannot carry. As for the suicide, I think when someone commits suicide that Satan must be behind it. A good example if Judas of Iscariot.

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

Have you ever seen a teenager that was bound for greatness try drugs, get hooked, and fall down into the gutter where nobody will help him?

I think that if someone commits suicide, then they didn't believe God had all the answers and would help them if they asked.
