My husband practically lived on beef jerky and enery drinks (he was on patrols all the time when the DFAC was open). Beef jerky is a big one, then again, he said they get Slim Jims by the case. We had a lot of guys ask for powdered drink mixes, i.e. Gatorade. Hard candy. Cookies and stuff will arrive in a pile of crumbs. Chocolate will always have to pass through somewhere warm, so avoid that. I would go to the case lot sales and get cases of cereal, ramen, etc and send those. Remember, even if he doesn't like it or eat it, someone there will. Pictures and letters are huge, drawings from the kids. I sent a little teddy bear to my husband with some perfume in a zippy bag. Silly as it sounds, he would take the bear out on big patrols, he named it Combat Stitch. That poor little bear is dirty and ragged but it's seen more combat action that a lot of people in the military. Games, cards, stuff like that. Again, even if he doesn't use it, someone will and helping any soldier keep his head up is money well spent. There are some things that you're not allowed to send because of customs regulations, check with your on-post PO for a list of these things. Even if it's a little box, they love getting stuff. Stay strong, you'll all get through it. Also, before he leaves, if you have kids, have him give something to each of them, a picture, anything, that they can carry with them and say "this is from my dad" while he's gone. It will help keep them connected.

SS to hear that your husband is leaving soon, definitely NO chocolate (during hot months) regular hard candies are great. I sent my husband with a brand new ipod...it gave him something to do over there (downloading new songs) Another thing I did, I kept all the mail and about once a month sent it to him, magazines, bills...lol even the junk mail!! But he liked it cause it helped keep him in the loop, you know. And of course the letters, my husband likes those better than the emails...sprayed with a bit of perfume. If he likes games (video) and has access to a system or if he's taking one surprise him with a brand NEW hot game, you know the kind they like....this is always a picker upper. (if he's into games)
Good luck and remember when he's gone to keep strong and keep your head up...utilize the FSC and other services at your disposal.

It depends a lot of where exactly he is going is he mainly on a FOB or more on Patrol?keep in mind that either way he wont have much room to store things.best bet is food items(beef jerky Candy) laminated pictures of you(my hubby loves when i take a whole bunch of snapshots..nothing posed but day to day things like dinnertime with the kids kids sleeping, makes him feel like he is still part of our daily life),during the summer pack a bunch of cheap water guns in a package ,Frisbees or a Nerf football.the guys can act like kids during down time.Travel size comfort items like Foot powder,Tylenol,Q-tips(to clean equipment)Handwritten Notes (tip..laminate as much as possible, things get funky quick over there)Winchester gun cleaning wipes, tuna pouches. If your hubby doesn't like something he will share with his buddies,Home made Cookies,Powdered Gatorade(possible in envelopes if he moves around a lot). also check out the treatsfortroops.com website for more ideas.Try to make "Themed"Packages once i send my hubby a ham dinner!canned ham, instant mashed potato's,milk powder and a pack of instant cheese cake, not the "real thing" but that's what i ALWAYS cook for his birthday!get creative you know your husband better then anyone else(ok maybe his mom lol)

Wear something skimpy and sexy for a few days. Take a picture of yourself in it, then immediately put it a zip-lock bag, so your scent is still on it when it arrives along with the picture. If that's not your style, send him the pillowcase you've slept on for a few weeks. In either case, every few months, send another.
Hide little notes in his belongings before he leaves. Put them in hi socks, inside a roll of toilet paper or box of kleenex, in the pages of books he plans on reading when he gets there. He'll be finding your little love notes for weeks and it will be a treat every time.
Take lots of pictures of even every day things and send them with each package.
Carry a portable cassette recorder – record even the most passing thoughts and send a tape with each package.
Collect memories about things you’ve done in the past (poems, pictures, journals…send in increments over the months.
If you plan on sending food/snacks, put your own labels on them with titles like Hostess "Love Snacks", (Your Name's) Chocolate Kisses (instead of Hershey's), instead of chocolate chip cookies, it could be "chocolate tears from missing you" cookies, etc.
Good luck to you both and thank you and your husband for your service.

I am sorry to hear he is getting deployed. Sadly this is shaping out as badly as Vietnam or worse. Get him an XBox 360 with live arcade. That should keep his mind sharp and his heart light.

COOL MAX SHIRTS. They are the greatest for keeping cool. You can even buy them in military green. Just google Cool Max t-shirts.
Electronic card games they can play alone, and batteries to support the game
Good Luck and May God Bless and Protect him.

i'm no longer acquainted with any packaging or protection rigidity rules concerning what you could deliver, yet from only seeing your question i imagine it will be neat to deliver a image album with only candid images of you, his loved ones, and places/issues that he'd comprehend that could deliver a grin to his face or make him snigger. also, a small piece of abode that he ought to maintain with him (may be some thing you've interior the abode only mendacity on a shelf or on ornament) to style of supply him a reminder of abode/solace from the toils in Iraq.

How about favorite music, family dvd, pictures,non-perishable food that he likes, things that will keep him feeling loved and secure throughout his deployment. Maybe the most important of all is a "Bible" My son was there I constantly encouraged him to remember that "God is his shield" . May God bless you and your family throughout this separation.
