Good question, and many great answers. One thing that hasn't been touched on is each sides capacity for killing in relation to the killing that they are doing. To be purely academic about it the Israelis could kill far more civilians than they are now (through folly or for intent it should be debated later). Now Hezbollah is killing as fast as it possibly can with it's very limited resources. Now what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot?
Really the only difference between the good and bad is the choice of cause.

Lets see.... Both civilian and military people were killed during WWII,but did that make Roosevelt as evil as Hitler? I don't think so. SO I guess the only way for you to answer this question is for you to decide-Are you on the side of evil where genocide is practiced against an entire people, and rape rooms are used daily, kidnapping is common place and any kind of disagreement against said government is dealt with by torture and murder or the side of good where freedom is being fought for and innocents are killed during this process,an unfortunate side of any war.

Its a fair question, and who is the good guy might depend on your political points of view; For instance there are many who consider Israel the bad guys because the United Nations created their state out of Palestine -and many have sympathy for the displaced Palestinian people.
However which side is hiding among the civilian population and using them as shields? Which side is not affraid to send suicide bombers into cafes and on to buses where innocent people reside? Which side sends missiles into the cities it opposes with such randomness (non targeting) they are sure to hit only civilians? That side is the Palestinians or those fighting for them from other middle eastern nations.

Perhaps the most objective way of seeing it is not in terms of "good guys" and "bad guys." In political science we are taught to be as objective as possible (while its both an art and science, the science portion would require as much objectivity as possible). Therefore, we should call them "Side A" and "Side B" and so on. There is no "right" or "wrong," but the word "different."
If one were to pursue a more ethical or moral approach, one would have to look at the intent, act, and consequence to make a judgement of whether one side is "right" or "wrong"/ "good" or "bad" This is the prism in which most people look through.

I guess it depends on how the innocents are killed, and the degree to which each side tries to prevent that from happening. If both sides are intentionally killing innocent people, then neither is really good.
If one side (A) is killing innocents through callous disregard, and the other side (B) kills innocents through rare mistakes it tries to avoid, then side B would be the good guys.

For those who profess to be lead by their belief in Christianity - the true answer is Satan; for those who profess to be lead by their belief in Islam - the true answer is Iblis. Those who profess to practise Judaism - their concept of evil practises and choices are different - but they do have reasoning for evil acts that people choose to commit and perform!
Sadly and truthfully - there are no "Good Guys" - only the continuous cycle of death and destruction! When individuals enforce their will on others - and the results becomes what we are experiencing now - (wars, conflicts, murder, rapes, bombings, etc.) - we no longer can see anything else as a solution and act in no other way! Because the forces of evil have taken over - and we are no match for the force of evil - no matter your beliefs!

Conversation with a 5 year old who was watching a cowboys movie:
- What's going on? I asked
- The good guys are killing the bad guys, he said.
- How can you tell the good from the bad ones, I asked again.
- That's easy. The good guys kill more people than the bad guys can. He left me speechless.
Got it?

The good guys are the ones who actively try to prevent civilian casualties (US troops), as opposed to actively targeting them or killing them indiscriminately, (the insurgents). As a veteran, I can tell you that the extreme vast majority of civilian deaths in Iraq are the result of terrorist bombs, shootings, and kidnappings.

Dear dove,
Rational people don't want to go to war. Death and destruction are what war is about.
However, freedom is always worth fighting for. Our way of life is not perfect but, it is the best thing going.
Good guys fight for freedom and the American way. We are bound by and honor the Geneva Convention. Unlike our enemys who target civilians we do our best to restrict the fighting to the combatants.

Depends which side you're on. Terrorists look an awful lot like patriots from the opposite position.
