As everyone else already stated, you do need a prescription for Ritalin. It is a controlled drug, so not only do you need a prescription, they send a copy of your accepting the drug to State authorities; possibly even Federal. Basically whatever the procedure, the government keeps a record of everyone who has a prescription for ritalin, so that person doesn't get more than one prescription from different doctors, etc. That's because this drug can be abused and a person can become addicted to it and it has to be monitored, so you must be under a doctor's care. Plus, it is not meant to be a weight loss pill or something to increase you energy.
If you want to lose weight, take CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) made by Tonelin. This helps your body to naturally burn off fat cells.
For physical and mental energy, you can take Ginkgo Biloba. Ginseng is great for increasing physical energy. You should also be on high dose multivitamin that is high in antioxidants since your body has been through so much.
For your chemo brain, taking high choline Lecithin 2 - 3 times a day will begin to feed your brain. It helps to prompt acetylcholine in the neurotransmitters of the brain, improving memory. Fish Oil can also be taken, but not one or the other; both.
If the chemo caused you to have some necrosis, you can take Alpha Lipoic Acid. I don't know why, but it helps to repair the nerves. This actually will also support your brain as well.
You should probably also take Flor Essence because it will help to clean out the toxins that are built up in your body and brain so you can feel better and function better.
Juicing 1 to 2 times a day with ORGANIC fruits and vegetables will revitalize you. As I have stated before, I actually felt like I got a blood transfusion afterward and could feel the life surging through my body.
This will help your ability to begin to exercise. They say if you briskly walk 5 hours a week, it decreases the chance of cancer coming back, plus it will have the added bonus of helping you to lose weight.
You want to stay away from sugar, not only for the weight, but also cancer thrives on it and it saps out your energy. It will work against you. I'd also stay away from sugar substitutes that aren't natural. There's one that is all natural from Central and South America called Stevia. You need a lot less of it and it won't have any adverse affects on your body or compromise you for possibly getting cancer again.
I have a few links below that might be of help to you.
You are in my prayers. Good luck...

If you had symptoms, and the medication relieves them, does it really matter whether or not you "really" have ADHD? It's not as though there's some specific abnormality in the brains of people with ADHD that is corrected by stimulants, or they'll do something bad if you don't have ADHD that they won't do if you do. It treats the symptoms, not the cause, so if you have symptoms, and the medication relieves them, there's no harm in taking the medication. The only reason you'd need a second opinion from a psychiatrist would be if you tried several treatments for ADHD and did not have a positive response. That would suggest that there is likely something else going on, and it would be worth taking a closer look to figure it out. But if the meds are working and you're not having any problems, I'd recommend leaving well enough alone. Especially since you run the risk that the psychiatrist will say you *don't* have ADHD, and they will be unwilling to prescribe Adderall for an off-label use to treat whatever they think it *really* is until you've exhaused all possible treatments for whatever you *really* have. Psychiatric diagnoses are essentially a matter of matching symptoms to things in the DSM, rather than gathering physical data from blood tests or such. The human brain is a complicated thing, and just because your symptoms match up nicely to some list of symptoms doesn't mean that the actual cause of those symptoms can't be something totally different. Treatment of psychiatric disorders is a matter of relieving the symptoms, which may or may not be accomplished in a way that has anything to do with the original cause. So if you had symptoms that were bothering you, and the medication you're taking relieves them without causing problematic side effects, it doesn't really matter how well your symptoms match the ones listed in the DSM for the disorder that the medication is "intended" for. Whether or not it's "really" ADHD, it's definitely something, and Adderall is clearly effective at treating it. Let them call it whatever they want. There's no point in wasting your time and money asking other people what they want to cal it unless you're also asking them how to treat it. But just to clarify from one of the previous answers, responding well to stimulants does NOT confirm that you have ADHD, and stimulants do NOT have a "reverse effect" in people with ADHD compared to the general population. It's clinically proven that stimulants improve concetration and focus in non-ADHD patients as well. Some people, primarily college students, abuse stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin for exactly that reason (taking them at approximately therapeutic doses, but without a prescription).

RE:
Can you get Ritalin without a presciption?
I am 48 years old, and post-chemo for Lymphoma. I have NO energy and I gained a ton of weight, due to the prednisone in my treatment. I also have 'chemo-brain'. [cognitive impairment following chemo] My treatment was two years ago, and these symptoms are NOT going away. I'm still...

I have heard the same thing-that Ritalin works the opposite way it does for children: it speeds adults up. I sure don't know how to obtain it without a prescription since it is under the jurisdiction of the FDA unless you buy it illegally on the street. And if you do you don't really know what you are getting. If it were me I would ask my doctor for help. If he refused to help me with the problem, I would find myself another doctor. I really sympathize with your problem though. I suffer from exhaustion from Multiple Sclerosis, but there is nothing I can do about it. It's the nature of the beast.

You sound like your dealing with a lot of health issues. Diet and exercise (even if you don't feel like it) is still the best way to lose weight. It will also kick your metabolism back up so that you don't feel so tired. You should not take ritalin without a prescription because it could make you feel worse. Please, don't take any medicine without talking to your doctor first. Maybe he/she could help you with a fitness plan you could benefit from. SHORT CUTS DON'T WORK!

I used to could get it in Oregon. It was one of those drugs that you didn't need a prescription for but needed a doctors signature. I could just get it. That's been years ago and I don't do stuff like that anymore. I wouldn't recommend you doing it either. It is mega speed in adults. it will give you hypertension and ruin what health you have left.

You cannot get it without a prescription. However you need to find a new doctor that will listen to your needs. The doctor you have right now is not treating you well at all, considering all that you have been thru and are still experiencing.
You will be in my prayers, and best wishes to you.

According to the BNF( British national Formulary, the doctors "bible" for all drugs) this is a controlled drug only available on prescription. Not only is it only available on prescription it use is has a controlled drug covered by the Misuse of Drugs Act. even if you could get some if you get caught with it you face criminal charges as does anyone who supplies it without a prescription
