I'm assuming you mean "veterinarian" and not "veteran". Veterans only get paid if you have retired from the service, which (if memory serves) requires twenty years of service.

Veterinarians can earn a great deal of money, but it depends on the type of practice you have. For example the salary earned by a veterinarian in the private sector that owns his/her own clinic can vary greatly from a veterinarian who is employed by another. Consequently, the responsibilities and general "headache factor" increases as well.

There are other factors to consider as well. If the vet is in practice in a rural setting, they can earn a great deal of money if they treat farm animals. But if they treat only pets, their business would be rather limited. Also vets that work at a zoo may not get the kind of salary they desire either, as zoos don't always turn a profit.

If you intend to become a veterinarian, do so because you enjoy the work. Although you CAN earn a great deal of money in that career, it's not guaranteed.
