I have a nine yr old son that just turn 9 a few days ago and it's seems to me everytime he's told to something that he knows he's supposed to do he gets an attitude with who evers telling him what to do. And a for me I wasn't raised to catch an attitude with my parents when I was told something and not be punished. Im not trying to raise him the same way that I was rasied but I do want him to know he has to respect people in order to get respect.

Start telling him to do things that if left undone will affect him. For example, ask him to set the dinner table, put new toilet paper on the roll in the bathroom, bring his clothes in from the line.

If he doesn't do them, let him suffer the consequences of no dinner, paper, and dirty clothes.

I'm sure you can be more creative, but the idea is to give him an opportunity to learn that:

1. You won't be doing everything for him the rest of his life.

2. There are obvious, personal consequences to rebellion without merit.

You answered your own question. You say you weren't raised that way yet for some reason you do not want to use the same techniques on your son. Whatever worked on you should work on him. If you don't want to do what works then you have to accept that he's the boss.
