HDMI is now widely available. It is becoming the standard interconnect for HDTV. If at all possible, use HDMI for your DVD and HD tuners. One reason (besides better quality) is that that HDMI supports copy protection and component does not. Some sources can be "down-rezzed" for analog outputs, meaning they will not be HD. This especially is a potential problem for the new HD DVD players (both kinds). This hasn't been done yet, but the potential is there.

HDMI is the best way to go, trouble is not every receiver has HDMI connections, and right now it is on only the very esoteric or most expensive equipment , and not for the common man. So if you can afford it , go for it.
