"Though far from an atheist, Hitler was a Roman Catholic apostate."

"Elsewhere in the same political autobiography, Hitler wrote, "I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."

Because people tend to believe whatever their church tells them... and what better way to vilify atheists than to say Hitler was one. Nobody will look it up because in church there is no other way than appeal to authority.

Christians have a long history of demonizing anyone or any idea they consider to be contrary to their interests or traditions. Calling Hitler an atheist makes some Christians feel more justified in condemning atheism, as though that proves that being a Christian makes one a better person.

Unfortunately, atheists do this too often as well, using acts committed by extremists or done in the name of religion to condemn religion.

Because they don't want that man linked to their religion. It would reflect poorly on them. But then, most of them ignore the rest of history where their church leaders were killing innocent people for their lands, etc...

He was seen in many churches across Germany. One in particular is when he is degrading the Jews... he is standing on the steps of a Roman Catholic Church.

Maybe they are confusing him with Napoleon. He was an Atheist.

Hitler was backed by the bible though.

I'm thinking Hitler must have been hearing voices - like mental illness - thinking it was God - to kill all those innocent people.

Because they want to demonize atheists, so they pretend that atheism is the source of all evil.

Of course they will mindlessly forget their own barbaric history of violence, murder, oppression, and bigotry.
