I often hear many people say that if a person converted from Christianity to another religion, they must have never been Christians in the first place. Personally, I strongly disagree with that statement. I was once a Christian (I'm talking real Christian here, breaking down one day crying and realizing I needed to accept Jesus and giving myself over to God's will and having a personal relationship with him, and trying to live my life as a true Christian as best as I could). However, as I got older, and began to study many religions, I converted to Wicca (which is what I have believed for 8 years now). I often wonder how people feel about people converting away from Christianity and why they feel the way they do about such people.

Okay, since every post involving Paganism or Wicca eventually gets answers relating Wicca to Satanism... no. If you want to believe that any non-Christian religion is actually related to Satan because he tempted them away, pretending to be the "angel of light," then fine, but Satanism and Wicca are TOTALLY different. Organized religion is the bane of mankind.
Since Christianity is not determined by an emotional experience (the sincerity of your account is not in doubt), and since Christianity cannot be earned through works, but is instead manifested by works, I'm not convinced you're not a Christian.
Consider Matthew 7:20-23 and especially Matthew 25:31-46. All the Wiccans I know honor the basic Christian principles of regarding others humanely, and being good stewards of nature -- so, regardless the deity they profess or deny, they are yet Christians (to the extent that term has any intrinsic meaning).
The people that "weren't ever really Christians" are the people that leave to join things like Islam -- but even then, so long as they remain "westernized," there is hope even for them.

Merry Meet. First of all whoever in the long list of answers lumped Wicca in with satanism is ignorant. Wiccans do not believe in the devil or Satan so how can we worship something that doesn't exist to us. Hmmmmm.
I grew up in a Baptist church and it never made sense to me. When I was 16 I started researching other religions and found Wicca to be more inline with my personal beliefs. I am constantly "assaulted" by "Christians" who preach tolerance on Sundays and do nothing but bad mouth and condemn others every other day of the week. As for the bible, here's a bit of logic....
The bible was written by man.....True
The bible states that man is flawed in his nature as explained by the "fall"......True
Therefore the bible is flawed.
Yes, I have read the bible. I find it interesting yes, historical maybe, true? Most definitely not.
I bear no ill will towards anyone for their religious beliefs and all I ask is the same.
BTW....Christianity started out as a much condemned cult and was only brought to the forfront of religion when Constantine conquered Rome. Christinity at times has also been known to be extremely barbaric in both practice and nature.
Blessed Be My Wiccan Sister

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. To Christians who choose to convert, I wish the best of luck.
Also, people change - sometimes completely. Convertion is not proof that a person was not a Christian in the first place; they just changed.
I have been a Christian all my life, by the way.

I used to be a Christian. Well, not a diehard one. I think I was just one out of fear. I wanted to go to heaven and I wanted to not sin. I once belonged to a youth group and I went on a church camping trip type thing with them. There I accepted Christ. As I stood up in front of the church there I just felt the teeniest thing in the back of my mind that my heart wasn't truly into it. At the time, though, I really wanted it to be.
My friend told my dad as we were driving home that I accepted Christ. I got kind of embarrased, and I wondered what was wrong with me. I wasn't supposed to be embarrased, I was supposed to be jumping for joy. Right?
I just don't think I was ever made to be a Christian. Now I am a Deist.

I feel that people who leave Christianity for another religion have a right to what they choose. However, I will pray for them and hope they return to God before judgment day comes so that they can share in the kingdom of God with me.

I would never KNOW God and His wonderful grace and then turn my back on him into another religion that doesn't believe he exists. That is like slapping him in the face. But I don't hate people who do that. I do feel sad that they were so close to being saved and then they forfeited that gift for something false. Very sad to me.

All people have to make their own choices and live up to the consequences of those choices. Sure, if you were a friend, I might be a bit disapointed and try to help you, but that is all that I would be able to do. After your choice, it would not matter how I felt about it, but it matter more of how you feel about it.

It is not possable for one who is of the True Christian Faith to "convert" to anything else...period...no-ifs-ands-or-butts...
To be of The Faith is to Know The Truth... one of the Faith knows the truth of their Salvation... NO ONE is going to give that up... because no one can... once one is truly of the faith is is a done deal...
Many think they are... many "think" just because they have "done it all" that some preacher or family or culture told them that they are saved... If one is Saved one Knows it... No one gives that up because they Know it is truth...
THE WAY remains open to all who will come to God in The Way He proscribes..... untill the last mortal breath.
I accept email questions concerning the Christian Faith. Or, you may check me out at:

I feel it is their choice. This is why God gave us free angency - so that we could choose to return to Him or not. We choose our own destiny and we choose what to believe or not believe.
I give you kudos for standing up and making a choice. I may not agree with your choice - but I'm glad you showed the courage to live as you belive and not as others want you to believe.

I got no problem with other Christians changing to Buddhists, atheists, Jewish - it's not my business what they wanna believe. I do have a problem with wiccan and devil worship though - there's enough evil in the world.
