I believe true American spirit is being able to embrace our fellow neighbors, and give our fellow men a helping hand, and show them that we are the land of opportunity. If we start to make it where no one feels welcome to come to this country, where is that going to put us? American spirit is being able to admit when we are wrong, and showing we are here to help. We as Americans take for granted what we have, and only continue to want more. When there are those that have nothing. It is alright to be proud, and to show your support; but let's not forget who made this country what it is today. America has become what it is because of the sweat of many immigrants and the sons and daughters that have fought to keep it that way. Let's not forget that. No one can truly say they are American, we all came from different backgrounds, and unless you are an American Indian don't sit there and say that this is your land. You did not buy it, if you claim it as yours; go ask a tribe elder you claim immigrants are stealing what is yours, look at history that is what America is based on, stealing the land of others!!!

No.
The American spirit has to do with freedom from tyranny and following the self-governing rule of law.
You are fantasizing again.
What you are all talking about is the contract of the Constitution between peoples - but the common good and all those promises are for one flag, one language, one nation indivisible that as Americans we would live in peace together - not apart like the pro-illegal crowd is pushing for.

That is right American spirit is a spirit of all nationalities who have migrated to this land and must live in harmony. If you put up fences to reject your neighbor you're just looking to pick a fight.

No, actually, I think that is just a single point of view and not the "American Spirit". Respecting that you may have a different point of view, and determining to disagree agreeably, now THAT is the American Spirit to me.
To me none of this is about lack of tolerance, it is all about not wanting to be the one to pay for education and services for the poor of a foreign country that doesn't take care of its own people.
But as I said, I understand that we have a different point of view.
