When the door bell rings, why do dogs always think its for them? :o)?

Wahaha! Well, my four dogs actually *do* think that people come to see them... I have a strict rule around my house that says that no one may enter unless they really like dogs. We have a little black and white tornado, with tongues, rip through our living room every time someone knocks on our door...

Dogs are very territorial and the ringing of the bell means there is an intruder. They are just protecting their "pack" from whatever danger there is outside the door.

I wouldn't know my ShihTzu puppies usually run to the closet or under the couch when the door bell rings!

perhaps they're just letting you know that there's someone there at the door, as not everyone always hears the doorbell ringing, or they could be thinking that it might be a good chance for them to make some new friends.

one of my dogs never knew it meant someone was at the door, she just hated the noise. the other dog on the other hand would fling her body against the front door (which was glass) like she was trying to attach whoever was there

Because all visitors, including meter-readers and delivery people, exist only to pet them (or be food for them, depending on the disposition of the dog). Who else would they be there to see?

Because, that's their home, you just live there =)

Really, they just want to guard you, so they have to check out anyone who comes to the door.
