My daugther is almost 6 months old. She started solids at 4 months. What are the genreal guidelines of when she can eat finger foods? A lot of books say 8 months, but that seems kind of old. Kylee can sit without support now, can get on hands and knees with stomach off of ground, but can't crawl in that position yet, can pull herself up to a standing on knees position, has a great interest in eaitng my food, has started using the sippy cup (not too good at it yet), can swallow her pureed food with ease, and wants nothing more than to feed herself.
She has everything she needs to use teething biscuits (according to the back of the box), so why can't she start solids till 8 months?
Are there any other guidelines?
Yes, I should talk to the doctor and will, just wondeing what everyone else has done and if it is ok for me just to give her a tiny piece of banana or something to see what she will do with it.

Babies become interested in finger foods anywhere from 6 to 9 months, but most start at around 8 months. Teething biscuits are not the best choice to start with - your baby probably doesn't have many teeth yet and will be mashing her food with her gums. So she needs something that easily breaks down in the mouth, to prevent a choking hazard. Pieces of cooked vegetables are best - try baking a sweet potato in its skin, letting it cool, then cutting it into cubes. You can dust them with a little cinnamon - they are nice and soft and have a sweet taste that babies love. Being able to sit and crawl has nothing to do with being ready for finger foods. Wait until she is 8 months because at 6 months her body isn't ready. Start giving her "wet" finger foods at 7 months such as bananas and things like that. Nothing solid though until she is 8 months.

I say start now little by little, i started giving my son like the finger puffs that disolve fast in there mouth at about 7 months. Just give her little bites of soft food, try bananas. You can never go wrong with fruit.
