Dear Lady, I sure know that feeling..The way I fixed it was..Insted of 3 large meals, I ath 6 or 7 small ones..I also keep a large glass of ice water with me.. That helped. I would cut up an apple, fairly small and munch on that.. its all hard but I did drop 52 lbs and dont eat like a horse anymore.. Good Luck your friend from Tennessee....ROB

Smoking is not a good way to stop food cravings, because if you are prone to overeating, then you will soon be smoking a pack while sitting at the dinner table. I have found the best way to prevent cravings is to eat a balance meal that is portion controlled at least 2 times a day, and eat healthy snacks between. It all has to do with regulating blood sugar levels, because they also contribute to that feeling of emptiness, if you keep your levels up enough with the healthy stuff, and get out of the house and do things away from easy food access you will soon learn to go do something instead of eating to replace the boredom. Don't go without eating or you will just reach for whatever is around, and eat more than you need to. Trust me, I've been one of those couch potatoes for years, and recently got into an active lifestyle surrounded by family and friends activities, and when you have that much to do, you don't think about food so much, I don't miss that afternoon pick me up of a candy bar and chips, now I eat a banana, and it does so much better. But I still associate smoking with eating because I fell into that trap, now I have two dangerous habits to contend with. Don't fall into the trap, eat right, and avoid the quick fix solutions. I've dropped 2 pants sizes in 2 months. Now if I can just stop smoking up my lungs like you would smoke a salmon.

Pick a topic you'd like to learn a lot more about, then spend as much time as you can afford in a library researching it. The more time you spend in the library, the less you'll eat or smoke. Stay focused on your research and don't allow yourself smoke or snack breaks. At least if it doesn't work, you've learned something you wanted to know!
Or, volunteer to work somewhere that would not be suitable for smoking or snacking. If it involves a lot of physical effort, all the better. Then if it fails, you can at least feel good that you volunteered some time!
The basic idea is to change your physical situation to make your eating and smoking inappropriate for what you're doing, and do it in a way that is beneficial to you and/or others. When you start wanting to take a break from whatever it is that you're doing, in order to eat or smoke, you have to remind yourself that a) you have a goal that is important to you, b) food is for nourishment, not entertainment or emotional support, and c) there's nothing redeeming about smoking.

Well, it'll take a little more explanation than that. Smoke... cigarettes? The best way to stop the cravings is to start working out. You'll be able to kick the cravings for food AND cigarettes. Chew sugar free gum at the times when it gets too intense, but don't deprive yourself of the nourishment you need! Sometimes, those food cravings are your body telling you that something's missing. Have you tried a multivitamin? Good luck!

Well, you want to stop smoking and craving food??? when you feel a craving of either coming on, try chewing some gum, or sucking on a piece of hard candy to satisfy your oral fixations. If that doesn't help, try to occupy yourself by doing some exercises or something else that is physically active. You are more likely to crave a food or a smoke if you are doing things like reading, watching tv, or on the computer. Good luck!

If drinking lots of water every time you have cravings doesn't work, try eating a little of what you are craving for, but also put on your fridge door a picture of the most big and horrible person you can get, moreover, try one of yourself increased in size by using a software. I did that and every time I rushed to the kitchen for food, all my cravings disappeared when I saw that big myself image.

Eat lots of fruit. The juices from the fruit will fill you up quick. But don't eat too much because then you'll begin to feel bloated. Lots of water is a good way as well. Also, there's nothing wrong with eating. Instead of eating in big proportions, eat several small meals. But make sure you're eating healthy food.

My cure was water and sunflower seed for the oral fixation part. Then for the board just looking for something to do so I make myself get hankerings for certain foods cure I started running outside just down my road and when it is to hot or cold there is a treadmill in front of a tv in my guest bedroom for me to run on. This also works great for anger and depression. Good luck. Smoking is a really bad answer. Trust me I have been there. Start running!!!or walking fast till you can run.

Chewing gum can help (especially nicorette) Exercize is proven to release hunger reducing hormones too. Try to quit smoking on a day that you get sick with the flu or someting, because you won't notice a lot of the withdrawal symptoms because you'll be focuse on whatever other sickness you have.

Clean the house. There is always something that has to be done around the house that has been put off for a later time. Drink lots of water and take a walk around the neighborhood every afternoon.
