I AM NOT ANTI-SOCIAL! Sorry for that, but I hate it when people act like home-schoolers live in a plastic bubble.

I am on a soccer team, go to science and art class (2 different teachers, which are all home-schooled) and girl scouts, and go to youth group.

Homeschoolers can set their own schedule, which means they can sometimes have time for more stuff.

For instance, I start school 6:30, I don't have to go on a school bus, so I can start earlier, If we have a dentist op ointment at 9:00, we can work are day around that. I finish school 11:00, and study 8 things. I study, bible (yes, I am christian) math, grammar, p.e (at home and soccer), science (at home and class), home economics, art (at home and class) and writing/reading.

You don't have to deal with other kids, I mean that ask all these questions and all, so we have more time to study. We go camping through the school year, on school days, and don't miss out of a day of school.

There are more clubs to go to and more time I can spend on my day, I have more free time.

I have 13 friends 5 which are from public school (we live less then a mile from a public school.) 4 are home schooled, and 3 that are from soccer. I am a normal kid, with more free time.

My cousin is in 4Th grade (in public school.) And scored "above level" on her testing, and she can't spell and read the simplest words, for instance, music. I could spell music in 1st grade!

If someone is trying to protect their kids from the world, then, that's them.

My mother is trying to keep us in a safe environment, but she doesn't want us to be anti-social, thus, she puts us in different activities for homeschoolers, and non-homeschoolers. I have been in a private school until I was in half through 4rd grade, I was a b+ student, no I am an A student.

All the homeschoolers I know are the nicest, friendliest, most outgoing people I know. And I was a every, very shy person when I was in private school, know, since I have been home schooled, I am (one) of the nicest, loudest, most outgoing person. I interact with about 60 people each week, I've probably interacted with a lot of people with all the events we go to.

Of course, not all homeschoolers are like this. It also depends on where you live. And how much time you have on your hand. We could even go to more stuff if my father wasn't working in China all the time.

Your relative (should) know you best. So they know what's the right way to teach you. There are tons and tons of study books to choose from, The person teaching you should know how you study, and pick the right one. (I) think that's why homeschooling is successful. Of course, not all homeschooling is like that, it depends on where you live and the time you have, so that was my naive view on how I live.

Does anyone here use Saxon Math? It rules!

I know, I wrote tooo much, oh well...

ALL YOU PEOPLE ARE SO NAIVE!!!!!!!!

Oh yes, people do think I'm cool, in a sense.

It's not like any other people in school are cool. What? You know 3 homeschoolers. Thanks for judgeing such a small minority.

I was homeschooled 2nd thru 8th grade and then transferred to a semi-private highschool. At the top of my class, I now have all sorts of friends, all of whom accept that I was homeschooled and actually think that its cool. Maybe I'm not quite the coolest kid in school, but I can say I'm well liked by all I know, despite some small lack of social skills which I am quickly overcoming. So yeah, I guess I prove that some homeschoolers can be kinda "cool". ;) By the way, there are many that later become really successful too, and we're not freaks just smart!!

OF COURSE!!! They are choosing their own path, they are adventurers, they are willing to try new things, they help in the community, they are eager to learn and are proud of it, they have free time in which to do hobbies, music, PE or follow other interest! That is cool! They were NOT bullied, harassed at school, they weren't pushed into deviant behaviours...that is cool!
They develop their OWN minds rather than adopting the current fad (be it political, social or fashion fad), that is cool! And what is cool, anyway? Is it that my homeschooled daughter (now an adult) likes to go to Nine Inch Nail concerts? Is that cool? Or is it cool that my other homeschooled daughter now is studying pre-med and is volunteering her time a Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Foundation? Is that cool? Or that my other daughter wear really nifty MAC make-up? In my eyes, all homeschoolers are cool, because they can be who they really are. ;o)

In a lot of areas of our country, a person who is homeschooled by dedicated and educated parents are going to be heads and tails ahead of their classmates when they do decide to join the public schooling system.
I plan on homeschooling my children until around the 5th or 6th grades.

"An unprecedented new study of adults who were homeschooled not only contradicts assertions they lack socialization but shows them far more likely than the average American to be civically minded and engaged in their local communities. "

What makes people equate social skill with coolness?
And where do you get off assuming that homeschoolers have no social skill?
In defense of all those who might appear to be anti-social:

Define social skill for me. What- 'partying'- drinking too much, dating ceaselessly, not giving a damn about yourself and your own ground but rather giving in to and following the crowd??

We possess self-respect.
We possess discipline.
We possess character, intelligence and maturity.

Now, if you uber-critical people are not our type, WELL, doesn't that make perfect sense???
Just as you idiots wouldn't want to hang with us, we wouldn't want to hang with you morons.
"Un-social"? Not at all. We just SELECT OUR FRIENDS and YOU narrow-minded and judgemental people happen to be EXCLUDED!!!

But for the most part, we are not anti-social or unsocialized. Social skills are not lacking at all. Ask any homeschooler and they have plenty of friends, do plenty of things and go out all the time. They are actually BETTER adapted to life than most other children are and are far more successful academically and more personally fulfilled and happier with their life (based on real polls!).

If by "cool" you mean having lots of socail intelligence, I would say some do and some don't. I can't say that I agree with the idea behind home schooling. I think in order to be "cool," or socialized, kids need to be in various situations and learn how to solve problems on their own.

I'm don't consider myself "cool" (if by that you mean "popular", "trendy", etc.). But that doesn't mean that I live in a cave or can't say more than two words in public!

There are "uncool" people in EVERY method of schooling, be it public, private, or homeschool.

homeschoolers have no no cool as they are not in place that rates people on the way they act but if you are with one you will see that they are freeks because they have no social skills at all. they do not seek to gane ranks of cool so i belive that they are completely uncool because cool people are social and they are completly uncool but the choice is yours.
