I don't think that there is anything good about any religion. It is the root cause of 99.9% of conflict there has ever been. People use religion as an excuse for not taking enough responsibility of their lives. It is a crowded world and getting worse. We have to accept that sometimes whatever has happened has happened and deal with it on those terms...seeking forgiveness from some 'higher authority' to me is a cop out. Take responsibility of your actions and if you feel that something you are doing is legally or morally wrong than accept you will have to live with the consequences. Also how much child abuse has been done in the name of religion

I don't need religion in my life. It's not that I don't want to believe in a higher order to the universe, it's just that I don't buy what any of the religions are trying to teach us. Perhaps when someone starts a new religion based on sound science, I'll sign up.

It is exactly opposite of what you think.
Science gave intellectuals a basis to believe in natural, biological creation, survival of the fittest. This is an unproven and unrealistic science. This science will never be able to show how genetic code is created. It is purely a hypothesis.
This hypothesis has led to godless political philosophies, that have been and are the most oppressive that have ever existed. The nazi's had scientific justification for ethnic cleansing (jews), and many nations use this today. The godless marxists eliminate capitalists and believers and anyone else who gets in their way to create a dreary society of big brother. Open your eyes, would you like to live in Cuba or North Korea, or during Stalin's programs and Mao's revolution. 10's of millions of people sufferred and die.
Yes, fanatical believers do exist, but the message of God is to love God with all your heart, and love others as you love yourself. Some people do go off message, but the impact is small compared to what godless groups have accomplished.
Since God is a creator, he created each of us for a reason, thus, goverment should protect individual rights and allow each of us to find our destiny.
I deeply fear Godless societies. Government should respect the free expression of religion of people and communities. Belief in a creator is vital to the health of a society.
When you have a child, just look in their eyes and tell them they are a random quirk of nature and in the grand scheme of nature, their life is meaningless. I dare you.

"Religion is the opiate of the masses"
Religion provides an understanding of the world. How its created, why this or that is happening, its all in religion. There is nothing "so good about it" its just a set of beliefs that people use as a guide for daily life. Beliefs in a god and prayer help to calm the mind and to reassure it.

Most times it's not just "religion" it's spirituality in general. When you look around and have the ability to reason, to make a decision, to have morals and know right from wrong...these are traits that animals do not have. They rely on instinct. We actually can choose what we can do with our lives, the relationships we want to have, whether or not to have children, etc. Even the question you asked right now is out of your ability to question. Other creatures don't question why they get eaten, or fly, or anything. The traits we have came from somewhere. A Creator. And I believe it was the only true God, Jehovah, or Yahweh. My belief in God, my spirituality, constitutes me happy because I know the answers to a lot of "WHY" questions, by means of God's Word the Bible, of course. Search. Look for your own spirituality. Find a relationship with God. He already knows you, he made you. Try to get to know him.

There is nothing good about religion. Religion is another term for organised management of God. Any systematic way of being could be classed a religious..., watching your favourite TV programme everyday or supporting a football team for example. It a shame people want to 'box god' into a particular way of being or understanding..it's so much bigger than that...nobody tries catching air with a butterfly net!!

It is not "religion" that is needed...it is simply spiritual guidance, which was the original, & somewhat long lost, intent of most organized religions.
Spirit growth comes from within, whereas religion is from without...
In that respect, spiritual growth is your only real purpose for this lifefime, all experiences you have are toward that goal. You see, you are only here in human form to know that which you are...you are very special, & special has many parts, such as forgiveness, joy, friendship, caring, sadness, aloneness, love...and sooooo many more. What's "good" about all this? Everything--if you choose to see it as that...Good Journey to you!

We don't need religion. We need God. Religion is man's attempt to reach God. But God stepped into human history and reached out to us through Jesus Christ. We can have a relationship with Jesus and skip the religion. Being a devoted follower of Christ and being religious are NOT the same thing.

Religion provides structure. It gives people a set of rules and guidleines to live by...religion gives people answers in a world where there are otherwise no innate, simple givens or truths.
