I believe that there exists a creator, but the creator is nothing like the description of God that is offered to us by any religious books. Nor is the creator god-like.
I also believe that all life is an experiment of the creator, the creator knows not what is going to happen, will not interfere, and is simply observing its experiment until life no longer exists.
The moral laws that humans have conjured are for the sanctity human life, and not to satisfy the creator. If humans treat each other with civility, life will be rewarding and it will be prolonged. If humans don't treat each other with civility, our punishment is consequence, and human life will die out sooner than it has to. The creator has no notion of these moral laws. The creator is only interested in the end result.
That is my theory. It's not any crazier than some of these other theories that have been passed around for centuries.

No, God is not like Santa Claus. If you've been bad, Santa leaves you a lump of coal. God punished the naughty Egyptians by killing every one of their first born children. (Hey! I didn't hear a Ho! Ho! Ho!!)
Not a fairy tale book, huh? Adam & Eve? Tower of Babel? The "flood?" Noah's Ark? Parting the Red Sea? Oh yeah ... VERY "valid historical book." Puleeze!

Actually, Santa Claus is real. He was a fourth century Christian leader who was part of the Nicene council (of DiVinci Code fame). There are more churches that bear his name, "St. Nicholas", then any other saint, and is the saint of the Orthodox religion. A pious man, he was already a church leader by the age of 17, and became one of the leading scholars of his day. He is the author of the Nicene creed that is still recited in Christian churches across the world.
So yes, God is just as real as Santa Claus. (And unfortunately most people are as ignorance of the facts about God as they are the facts about St. Nicholas.)

The Bible is not a history book. It possesses many types of literature but very little real history. It was not written in the way you write history. It is a religious guide. There is a big difference between the two.
Since Neanderthal times, man has been searching for a spiritual domain which is higher than himself.

I think many people have a concept of God that's like Santa Claus or an old grandfather in the sky.

We believe in Him because He is real and alive, and not just in our hearts. All one need do is look around at His creation and it is evident. If man were the 'pinnacle of evolution' we are claimed to be, we could create worlds. We can't. Further proof that Darwin was wrong.
Also, Santa Claus is not spelled with an 'e'

God is based on a belief system of morals and faith. Santa Clause is based on Christian teachings in most Western mythology. Why do you think he comes on Christmas day (just like Jesus) and brings presents (like the 3 wisemen)?

Maybe... but please spell it "Claus" without the E? I have a terrible grudge against the movie "The Santa Clause" for making people think that that's actually how you spell the fat man's name.
But I agree, God rewards you for being "good boys and girls", he sees you when you're sleeping (and who you're sleeping with), most people like to picture him as an old man with a big white beard... I see the similarities.
I wonder if God would make a good "ho ho ho" laugh.

God is real whether you believe in Him or not. God says in His Word to seek Him and you will find Him with a sincere heart. Jesus is the Truth. You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. It's as simple as that, read your bible :-) God Bless.

People believe in god for all sorts of reasons. Some people are looking for guidance, others are seeking comfort, still others structure. The human brain is wired for religion so it's only natural that most human beings believe.
