Try getting rid of those things which seem to drag you down.. is a mental thing and mostly at the subconsious level.. There are triggers implanted there which bring about your actions and reactions.. Dealing with them and getting the eliminated will allow you to gain that inner confidence thus creating strenth.

Go out and learn something. Challenge yourself to try new things. Join the Army if you're not afraid of being sent over to Iraq.
