Perhaps Barney would serve well as a - little "g" - "god" for some people, but definitely not for me.
Barney does display a lot of ideal Christian characteristics - love, hope, acceptance, encouragement. And since Barney - in the show - comes from the children's imaginations, he will always be there for them. That, again, is very much "like" God, but not my god.
My god is not dependent on anyone's imagination, on anyone's thoughts of good-will and peace, nor is He dependent on us being around. My God - "big g" - doesn't need me, but He wants to be with me, wants me to share in what He has to offer.
That's the kind of god I want. Try Him. He won't go away when the TV is turned off.
