preventing is simple, stay out of the sun, but if like me u can't then just stay in the shade. to soothe it slice a tomato in half n rub the fleshy bit on the rash! sounds crazy but it stops the itchin and cools it down!

I know what you mean. No cures, but prevention would include tepid baths/showers, proper drying of the body, talcum powder (baby powder is best) or aqueous cream - this comes in big tubs from the chemist and is very cheap. People with eczema use it. Dress in loose cotton clothing during hot periods and don't have lots of layers around your middle. Short term for really unbearable prickly heat that needs to be brought under control would be a 1% hydro cortisone cream. This is available on asking at your pharmacy counter. Only use it for a few days though as it contains a tiny amount of steroid.

I really feel for you as my husband suffers from it at times.
He has found that to stay out of the sun helps, as does not drinking alcohol (but he does not find this a good suggestion - especially when on holiday/a barbecue/relaxing/doing the gardening/playing with the children/doing anything!)
Do not put one hand on top of another (or cross your legs) as the added temperature can make it worse.
My husband found using loads of after-sun helps dramatically - and spending 10 minutes conentrating on rubbing the cream in helped take his mind off the itching - and it did not stop him doing anything (except that I am allergic to scent so it stopped some adult activities late at night!) - mind you, if you have bad prickly heat, adult activities are the last thing on your mind - and are likely to make it worse anyway!
Another thing that helps is having lots of cold showers and make sure you wash very well all over your body to remove all the dead cells. Okay, so it depends upon how bad your prickly heat is as to how cold you can get the shower - the worst allows you to have the coldest showers! The logic here is that if you have cold showers, your body temperature drops so the prickly heat is less.
Good luck with the prickly heat and we all commiserate!

I agree with the idea of using an antihistamine or calamine lotion but in generally tend to stay away from lotions. When its hot, putting lotion on anything just makes it worse especially if you can't constantly stay in a cool place. Its like basting a turkey. I find that using a powder like corn starch works best. Avoid powders that have lots of perfume in them because they can aggravate it.

Keeping cool helps prevent it, if suffering, take cool baths or showers, an antihistamine, a lotion calamine used to be used, but not very nice, but anything such as a natural lotion with aloe vera should help
