Just looked on train website and said 6 HOURS! This cannot be right, right?!

Actually, that is about right, because you have to make a number of changes as the line to Newquay is only a local branch line. Personally I wouldn't bother leaving Bath because Newquay is about the worst place in Cornwall - I know this because I am Cornish! Sorry, but that's about the best I can say.

That is right, look at the train change times - there can be a 2 hour wait at Par Station. There are only about 3 trains a day actually into Newquay.

When friends come to stay with me in Newquay I suggest they get the train to St Austell station, then get the bus. The train station and bus station are together so there is no walking between the two.

Or take a taxi (£20) from St Austell to Newquay.

That is about right at the moment, you've got to take into account the weather (if it's hot like it is at the moment then the rails are in danger of buckling), accidents, maintence/engineering work on or near the rails, and any threaten/actual strikes.
