sometimes..... hug is nice hold on bit see how he/she reacts if he/she alows you hold on for a bit longer you could whisper to him/her and get a little closer see what he/she does, if you can get really close then he/she might kiss you... dont just jump in.. only go 90% of the way let them do the rest lol.. ok last bit from hitch but still good advise

A nice warm hug and a kiss on the cheek is best for a first date.
