With our charcoal dresses we had white flowers in varying shades from white to cream to very pale yellow, and it looked fabulous. The flowers we used: roses, freesia, hydrangea, peonies, lysianthum (sp?), and bear grass for a bit of texture. Here's a pic of the bouquet, in case you are interested:

It depends on what the colors of your wedding are. I would try to stay away from orange though(Halloween?!), I personally wouldn't use yellow(bumblebee). I think a bright or pale pink looks great. A very stark bright white does as well. Try to stay away from darker shades of colors, like dark purple or blue. They tend to blend with the black. Good luck and congrats!!!

Calla Lillies
White dendrobium orchids
White Primrose Nosegay
Cream or White lilies, roses, stephanotis & lily of the valley
Or have a mix -- I chose cream, and red with the stephanotis

I agree that red roses are soooo cliche, they didn't print all of those tacky posters in the 80s for nothing. I would go with alstroemerias or some other type of lily. Orchids are also gorgeous.

Lillies look really fantastic with black. So do roses. If you need more ideas you can check out theknot.com. They have great planning resources and you can also talk to lots of women who are also planning their weddings.

Pink roses or any other type of pink flower would look pretty with black--or go with white roses or any type of white flower.

How about champagne-colored roses? Stargazer daylilies? White or pink Calla lilies?

Any jewel tones for a dramatic look. Pastels for contrast. What mood are you looking for? Anything goes with black.

orchids look good against a black background
white peonies would be gorgeous (they sort of look like feathers)
ask about incorporating actual/faux feathers. peacock would be lovely. and jewels too. very pretty.
good luck!
