It's not just one phone so I assume it's in the line. If we switch from one phone to another the static is still there. My girlfriend's uncle says it's the batteries. I disagree.

It is obviously the alien overlord Xenu attempting to contact you so you can help him exterminate the foolish followers of Scientology. Unfortunately his cellphone does not comply with FCC regulations so all it does is make a big static-y mess for all parties concerned.

Static on your telephone line is caused by loose or broken wiring, faulty electronic equipment or damaged carbon protectors. Since you've said that the problem occurs when you switch phones you can probably rule out the telephones (the electronic equipment at your end of the phone line). The true test though should be to unplug all phones and plug them in one at at time to see if one phone may be causing the problem. Using the same known working phone, plug it in to each jack and see if one of the jacks may be causing the problem. If the problem persists with all jacks, then it will be up to the telephone company to repair. If this occurred after a thunderstorm, then the phone line may have taken a lightnining strike and blown the carbon protectors. In any event the telephone company will have to replace the protectors or fix the outside wiring or replace the electronic equipment in the telephone central office. All you need to do is eliminate your telephones and inside wiring as a possible cause of the static.

all phone having the same problem most likely indicates your main trunk is the cause, couple of things to check

where the line comes into the house is the demarcation(sp) point. it should go to a box at that point, make sure the wires are making full contact with the terminals. (inside the house will cost you if a tech comes out, unless you have some service agreement)

also check the box outside, right before the wires come into your house for solid connections (this is the phone companies responsibility and will not cost you)

other things to check out is do you have DSL modems connected to your line try removing them to see if that could be the problem, or a fax machine.
Good luck

You have a problem with your phone lines. Most likely it's a short in the line coming into your house. If you call your phone company and report it, they should be able to fix it for you.

Static is produced by electrical storms, thunderstorms for instance, so it isn't static.

You should tell your telephone company and get them to check out the line and their equipment.

Check the sticker by the battery if it changed color because water got to it then its water damage, that how they check. Try drying it, it may comeback if it did not short out. Otherwise yea its ******. I called my company (T-mobile) and because I was with them for several years and no problems with bills they offered me another phone, I did not like that phone and asked about one I liked and they sent it to me I did not have to pay any charges or even a cent for the phone.

The chance is great, you lost the ground on your line. Just reconnect the ground wire to the ground connection and you should be OK.
That's if your problem is internal (in your house wiring).
If that doesn't fix it, check with the telephone co.

Just the NSA tapping your lines, to make sure you're not a terrorist or voting Democrat. :)
